Po Leung Kuk Wong Siu Ching kindergarten-cum-nursery

This service unit is a non-profitable kindergarten-cum-nursery governed by Po Leung Kuk and has joined the Pre-primary Education Voucher Scheme. The kindergarten-cum-nursey was set up in 1983 with a generous donation from Ms. Wong Siu Ching, and named as Wong Siu Ching Kindergarten-cum-nursery. It aims at providing diversified daytime child care and education services for children and their families in Wong Tai Sin District.

Objectives:

• Through proper care and concern, we ensure children to grow up healthily in love.
• Offer a stimulating environment to enhance the physical, emotional, social, self-care, language and cognitional development of the children, and lay a good foundation for personal growth.
• Assess and follow up periodically according to children’s developmental needs. Curriculum designed based on children-centre approach, in order to assist their whole person development.

Teaching Characteristics:

• Provide daily physical, creative music and art activities to stimulate children's whole person development.
• Emphasize on language development by actively promoting Chinese and English reading programmes.
• Provide adequate resources to encourage the children to explore actively and study independently in order to cultivate the nine generic skills in learning.
• Adopt the thematic approach to deepen various study contents and to consolidate what the children have learned through activity corners and different levels of textbooks.
• Utilize the progressive assessment method to continuously assess the children’s learning and their physical and mental development. Flexibly adjust the teaching strategies in accordance with the children’s learning needs.
• Create portfolio for each child, systematically record children’s daily performance and school works, report to parents regularly.

Occasional Child Care (OCC) are available in kindergarten-cum-nursery to assist parents and carers in need of temporary child care assistance, to allow them time off to handle exceptional circumstances. This prevents children from being left at home alone.

The extended hours service is available for parents who are unable to pick up their children within our centres' normal service hours. We can provide assistance on short notice to give parents the peace of mind that their children are being looked after in a safe and sound environment.

The integrated programmes in kindergarten-cum-nurseries cater for the mildly disabled pre-schoolers. Individual learning programmes are led by our specially trained teachers to give the children the best possible preparation for mainstream education. Services include speech therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and clinical psychological assessment/treatment.
