Job Summary

The University of Cape Town (UCT) is a research-led, strongly internationalised university, and the only one in Africa included in the Times Higher Education Supplement’s Top 150 world universities. The School of Economics at UCT is the top ranked economics department, both in South Africa, as well as Africa. Its PhD programme is in a strong growth phase and is particularly drawing students from the economically growing African continent and other emerging regions.

The School is seeking to make an appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level. Applicants with a specialty in any area of economics are invited to apply.

Minimum requirements

  • A PhD in Economics or cognate discipline.
  • An established research record including peer-reviewed publications in internationally acknowledged and ranked/rated journals.
  • Extensive experience in postgraduate teaching and supervision.
  • A good track record in teaching and evidence of academic leadership

For the position of Associate Professor, applicants must have strong national profile as a researcher with emerging international recognition, evidence of publication in international, peer-reviewed journals, and evidence of strong national research linkages and networks. For the position of Professor, applicants must have international research profile, substantial publications in international, peer-reviewed journals, and evidence of strong international research linkages and networks.
