The Department of Political Science at Umeå University is seeking to appoint a full-time professor in Political Science with particular focus on public policy and administration.
The position includes responsibility for research and development within the discipline of political science with particular focus on public policy and administration. The appointed professor is expected to lead research as well as be head of the subject. The position is located in Umeå and teaching responsibilities will normally take place on the University’s campus. Active participation in the life and work of the Department is expected. This includes leadership of one of the Department’s research profiles. This profile currently encompasses research on how public sector activities at local, regional and central levels are governed.
The appointed professor is expected to be an active researcher, able to obtain external research funding in competition with others and thus contribute to developing the research profile. Responsibilities include developing courses, teaching, supervision and examination at Bachelor and Master’s levels, as well as teaching and supervision at doctoral level. The successful applicant will have particular responsibility for courses in the subject at doctoral level. Teaching is in Swedish and English. Some administrative and leadership tasks within the Department may also be included.

Academic competence refers to independent research achievements, the ability to plan and lead research, as well as to communicate and disseminate research within the wider society.
Pedagogical competence refers to documented experience of planning, carrying out, examining and evaluating teaching; and to demonstrating a reflective approach both to students’ learning and to her/his own pedagogical role.
The assessment criteria for appointment as a professor are that the candidate must possess the degree of academic and pedagogical expertise required to qualify for the position. Other assessment criteria comprise administrative competence, academic leadership experience and the ability to engage in public outreach and collaborate with the wider society.
