We have been a state-accredited university since 1971. The German Council of Science and Humanities has rated our educational quality as excellent. All programmes of study are accredited.

We are a small university with around 1000 students. We still take great care to foster a close contact between students and lecturers, avoiding anonymous and impersonal mass events and overcrowded lectures.

With our hands-on practical training, we ensure a fast career entry: 89% of our graduates have entered into employment within a year after graduating.

Our research is carried out on an international level under the umbrella of FIVE – Forschungs- und Innovationsverbund an der Evangelischen Hochschule e.V. (Research and Innovation Group at the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Freiburg), with the key research areas revolving around gender research, childhood education, civil society and demographic change.

We also have a lot to offer for professionals: Masters degree programmes, certified advanced education, qualifications and symposiums. We make obtaining a doctorate possible through cooperation with universities and universities of education.

Internationalisation is actively engaged in throughout the whole university - for international and intercultural competencies are essential for (almost) everyone nowadays, not only when planning to work abroad. All Bachelor programmes include the option of theory- and practice-oriented semesters of study, as well as internships or short programmes to be carried out abroad. We cooperate with around twenty partner universities worldwide: such as in Belém, Copenhagen, Seville or Vienna. Starting with the winter semester 2015/2016, the Bachelor programme Social Work has been offering the special certificate “International Social Work”. Students opting for the additional qualification RECOS – a cooperation between universities from the Germany / France / Switzerland tripoint - will gain knowledge about the political, economic, legal and social situation in our neighbouring countries as well as about challenges that social work and education are currently facing.

So studying abroad doesn’t leave you strapped for cash, we offer financial support in the form of various scholarships or grants: ERASMUS+, Baden-Württemberg scholarships, UNIBRAL, PROMOS and Brot für die Welt (Bread for the World – Protestant Development Service).

Students completing their degree in Germany without an integrated study abroad programme are still able to gain international and intercultural experiences at our university: we invite lecturers and students from partner universities to Freiburg on a regular basis, as well as experts from foreign companies and institutions, which allow them to share their perspectives and worldviews with us in seminars and lectures.

The International Office of the university gives advice and support to students with an immigrant background and to students from abroad. Our special offers include: support by student tutors and lecturers, seminars “German for non-native speakers” and special scholarships from DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service).

Our university offers a variety of formats to pursue advanced scientific education for different professional fields: ranging from symposiums or seminars to Masters degree programmes. You will develop and expand competencies for your current or future career fields. You will secure your employment and pave the way for professional progress.

Advanced Masters programmes operated by our university. Single further education programmes in conjunction with different cooperation partners, partly at Masters level: e.g. Milieu-sensitive work with socially less privileged young people. Akademie für soziales Wohnen (Academy for social housing), e.g. conflict counselling in the housing industry. Advanced training offered by the IfW (Institute for Further Education) in Case Management and Palliative Care.

Further education at the EH Freiburg gives professionals the chance to specialise in various subject areas. In some cases, individual modules can be opted for. The curriculum can be shaped flexibly. MASTERS IN SOCIAL MANAGEMENT, Our innovative qualifications for people in leading and management positions are based on a Christian worldview and understanding of humanity, as well as considering ethical issues. MASTERS IN SUPERVISION, What’s unique about this programme is its conception as a Y-model with the branches systems theory/constructivism and pastoral psychology. MASTERS IN MANAGEMENT, ETHICS AND INNOVATION IN THE NON-PROFIT SECTOR, (in cooperation with Heidelberg University and the Protestant Universities of Applied Sciences Darmstadt and Ludwigsburg). This Masters programme aims at bringing forth leadership qualities based on ethics and personal reflection essential to shaping the profile of a charitable organisation.
