Puebla American School Foundation was founded by Anne Jenkins de Buntzler on September 1, 1942, with the support of Dr. Feland Meadows, Jr., to meet the needs of the American families living in Puebla. The school opened formally on February 1, 1943 in a rented house on Avenue 17 Poniente 901 with an enrollment of 75 students.

Puebla American School Foundation is a space where minds grow in an atmosphere of freedom. Our students learn to be critical thinkers, creative problem solvers, skilled users of technology, and clear communicators in both Spanish and English.

Respect, responsibility, and integrity are the essential values that shape our students as citizens of the world who will make positive contributions to their community and make the world a better place.

We respect human diversity and individuality, gender, age, nationality, race, creed, religion, physical and socioeconomic condition, political belief, sexual orientation, and ethnic and cultural origin.

We form students who are responsible for and accept the consequences of their own actions, understand different realities, and create opportunities to contribute solutions to social and environmental problems.

We aim to strengthen integrity through a culture of truthfulness and honesty. Our culture of truth and honesty aims to strengthen integrity and shape behaviors that are in keeping with the values of the School and the individual. Our commitment to education transmits enthusiasm for life-long learning, and we accept the challenge of working towards excellence.

A great deal of the success of our mission, vision, and values is due to our community of supportive and cooperative parents. We foster understanding and communication with them in the academic, psychological, physical, social, and ethical aspects that are vital to their students’ formation.

Our students become aware of their commitment to society through participation in several projects and campaigns. In the lower grades, home and school are the focus; in the upper grades, the focus shifts to a more personal commitment to particular communities. We use a variety of learning strategies to provide our students with the tools they need to develop behavioral habits and attitudes to take care of themselves.

During the school year, we offer talks and information on a variety of health topics for all ages. Our students gain an awareness of environmental issues in order to use natural resources wisely, have a better quality of life, and promote strategies for sustainable development within their sphere of influence.

The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP)accredits our bilingual program. The program focuses on the development of the whole child, taking care of his physical, emotional and cultural needs. At the same time it offers the student a solid ground in the main areas of knowledge: Mathematics, Social Science, Theater, Language, Music, Visual Arts, Science and Technology and personal, social and physical education.

We offer a relevant and meaningful curriculum with both a local and a global focus. The philosophy of the PYP program is expressed in a series of attributes that characterize the students with an international mindedness that allows them to take awareness in the points of view of people from other parts of the world. This program develops our students’ skills in inquiry, effective communication, and critical and creative thinking while fostering such attitudes as tolerance, respect, and responsibility. Together this attributes form the PYP learner profile.

Our Junior High School is incorporated into the Secretary of Public Education (SEP), and was approved to teach the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) on April 3, 2006.

The MYP program is designed by the International Baccalaureate for students ages 11 to 16. The MYP follows the Primary Years Program (PYP) and lays a solid foundation for the Diploma Program. It is a complete and coherent program that offers a challenging framework of age- and level-appropriate academics and life skills. In our school, MYP goes from the 1st year of Junior High School through the 1st year of High School and fosters in the students a responsible attitude through a combination of educational experiences and, the development of academic, social and critical thinking skills.

Students learn best when their learning experiences have context and refer to the world they know. They “learn how to learn” and they apply classroom learnings to daily life situations. Our programs provide them with discipline and challenges to foster their growth. Our goal for our students is for them to lead free and responsible lives starting in adolescence.

This Program is offered by the College Board, and is geared towards students with an international perspective, especially those who either do their high school studies or plan to do their undergraduate work, outside of the United States. This program’s standard of excellence spans the globe; AP International Diploma students are awarded scholarships and admission to colleges and universities around the world.

To develop skill, coordination, character, and teamwork through artistic and sports activities, and to foster good habits, attitudes, and values that promote self-discipline.Students from Kinder 2 through High School are welcome to take part in these activities at no additional cost.
