Welcome to Royal St. George’s College. Since 1964 RSGC has been providing an extraordinary learning environment for boys in the heart of downtown Toronto. The Georgian experience has always transcended an outstanding academic education. Our mission is to challenge and inspire each boy to be the best version of himself.
Our RSGC guarantee of Known and Loved is something that is lived everyday at the school. Each boy is challenged and supported academically, athletically, artistically, socially and emotionally. The best version of himself is a man of character. The best version of himself is an inquirer and a critical thinker. The best version of himself is engaged in a breadth of experiences and understands what it feels like to commit to being the best. The best version of himself is cultivated in authentic relationships with outstanding educators who are passionate about their students.
There is an intangible quality to a great school; something you can sense when you walk in the door. It’s the sense of community and the culture of respect. It’s the esprit de corps and the sense of pride and belonging among the students. It’s the way the school resonates and simply feels right. I welcome you to come and visit Royal St. George’s College and see, feel and understand the benefits of the Georgian experience for yourself.
Royal St. George's College is an urban day school that combines academic excellence with a stimulating and supportive environment. Founded in 1964, the mission of our College is to challenge and inspire each boy to become the best version of himself.
RSGC offers a challenging program of academics and co-curricular activities designed to prepare students for placement at the university of their choice. Our high academic standards, strong support system and our expectation that students will participate in athletics, music, the arts, public speaking and outdoor education makes for a well-rounded education.
Founded in 1961 as an Anglican choir school, we continue to value our musical heritage and Anglican values. We welcome and respect the faiths of all boys in our diverse population. Our community is based upon the principles that we respect one another, take responsibility for our actions and have the right to respectfully use our voices to make our views known. The size of the school population, approximately 445 boys, ensures that each student is known, respected and appreciated for his unique strengths and that he forms close, positive relationships with both peers and faculty.
Learning occurs in all areas of a student’s experience at RSGC – not only in the classroom, but also throughout the campus and into the community. That’s why you’ll see students outside conducting test flights of wooden gliders they’ve built, or planting vegetables and garlic in our community garden. It’s why we’ve established the Design Engineering Studio to bring boys of all ages together with the resources they need to make things. It’s why a group of RSGC boys took the initiative to raise funds to purchase iPods and music for a local extended-care facility, for the enjoyment of people living with Alzheimer’s and other disabilities.
At the heart of learning is the application of knowledge. At RSGC, we provide opportunities for learners to work collaboratively to build understanding in order to solve problems. Our students can be seen working together all over campus, drawing up plans, working with numbers, and writing and re-writing solutions to problems that exist in the immediate community and beyond. These opportunities allow each boy to expand his own creativity and challenge his limits.
Our learning culture provides many opportunities for the boys to develop awareness of how they learn, through academics, athletics, arts and service learning. Technology is used to support learning in a developmentally appropriate manner, and a variety of technological tools are available to facilitate the boys’ designs and creative solutions.
Although we utilize the Ontario Curriculum as the basis for our academic program, we continually expand and enrich the learning experience to reach far beyond the province’s requirements. By providing an academic program that taps into each boy’s motivation, we develop committed and self-aware boys who will have the potential to thrive and lead in a changing world.
In the Junior School, we pride ourselves on the warmth and energy that is exuded as you walk through our front door and interact with our staff and Junior Georgians. The idea of being “known and loved” is paramount to the success of our boys, and with a population of 156 boys in the Junior School, we are able to offer strong, nurturing and special relationships between our staff and students. We believe that when boys are truly happy, they are able to achieve their maximum potential in all areas of school life: academics, athletics, social, spiritual and moral growth.
Our small size also allows us to offer exposure to programs that enrich our boys’ educational experience, whether it be as a member of a team or special interest club or through our students’ impressive exposure to the arts. We offer enriched academics, a truly inspirational staff and lots of wonderful learning experiences; however, most importantly, we offer your son the guarantee that he will be “known and loved.”
Royal St. George’s College provides a rigorous university preparatory curriculum, high standards and a long tradition of teaching excellence. We are very proud of our success in preparing young men to enter the academic program and university of their choice. We offer a warm and supportive environment that builds self esteem and confidence, and challenges and inspires each boy to become the best version of himself.
Our curriculum combines a strong university preparatory program with a unique liberal arts and sciences curriculum full of interesting electives and Advanced Placement (AP) courses to prepare students for university.
In the Senior School, we strongly believe learning in the classroom is only part of the Georgian Experience. A well-rounded education includes social, personal and spiritual growth and RSGC offers an abundance of opportunities. Athletics help students build stamina, skill and confidence while learning teamwork and sportsmanship. Outdoor education offers students greater insight into themselves and the world. Community service projects help students define and develop a sense of selflessness, perspective and social responsibility. Student clubs, drama productions, art shows and musical performances all provide creative outlets that help our students cultivate their own sense of artistic expression.
We strive to develop in students the power of thinking critically and designing solutions to problems. Of equal importance is ensuring our boys welcome challenge and adversity and that they contribute positively and substantially to their learning environment.
