France, as a study abroad destination, may be considered affordable compared to other European countries. However, there are people who feel that the French student life is unmanageable due to financial burden. If you are one of these people, do not worry because France has a lot of scholarship programs which international students can apply for. In this article, allow us to enumerate some scholarship opportunities that are suitable for foreign students seeking a degree at a French university.

Sponsored by the French Government, the Eiffel Scholarships seek international students who wish to pursue a second cycle (graduate, not older than 30 years of age) or a third cycle (postgraduate, not older than 35 years of age) program in France. The program was established by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs so as to promote France as a popular study abroad destination for graduate students. Hence, all nationalities are welcome to apply.
Eligible applicants for the program should come from developing countries. Graduate applicants should have a keen interest in engineering, whereas, postgraduate applicants should take a degree in economics and management, law, engineering science, and political science. They shall be endorsed by the French university they have enrolled in. They can also apply through a Campus France office in their home country. Priority is given to those international applicants who are not yet living in France at the time of evaluation. The deadline for applications for the Eiffel Scholarships is January 11th for Campus France applications, and November or December for French university endorsements.
Successful applicants for the Eiffel Scholarships do not receive a tuition grant, but get the best financial plan with the validation of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. However, their enrolment fee in a public institution in France will be waived. They will also be entitled to a monthly stipend of €1,181 ($1,334) for graduate students, and €1,400 ($1,581) for postgraduate students. The scholarships will stretch from 1 to 3 years for graduate programs, and a year for postgraduate programs. Moreover, the Eiffel Scholarships cover flight tickets, transportation expenses, medical insurance, and accommodation expenses, in some instances.
The Emily Boutmy Scholarships are intended for international students who want to pursue any undergraduate or graduate study program in the Sciences Po University. Emily Boutmy is the founder of the university. The program provides generosity to students who are from outside of the European Union (EU). The institution accepts applications until the 8th of April for undergraduate students, and the 3rd of January for graduate students.
Successful applicants are given financial grants in the amounts of €3,000 ($3,388), €12,300 ($13,894), or €19,000 ($21,463) for undergraduate scholars. The program covers three years of undergraduate study. Successful applicants for graduate programs will receive €5,000 ($5,648) or €10,000 ($11,296) valid for a maximum of two academic years.
The Université Paris-Saclay seeks international students who want to continue their graduate studies at the institution. Interested applicants may choose from any of the existing master’s degree programs offered in the university. Currently, the university provides a total of 160 scholarships to international applicants.
Eligible applicants should not be more than 30 years of age and should have been accepted to a program in the Université Paris-Saclay. Usually, applications close in March or April every year. When chosen for the scholarship, an international student is entitled to €10,000 ($11,296) per academic year. He will also get a maximum of €1,000 ($1,129) for travel and visa expenses.
Syngenta, a leading agribusiness, in partnership with the INSEAD (“Institut Européen d’Administration des Affaires” or European Institute of Business Administration) seek international students who wish to pursue the popularly and highly recommended MBA (Master of Business Administration) program at INSEAD. Both institutions are bent on producing future leaders from developing countries.
Eligible applicants should have excellent academic background, passion and aptitude for business, leadership capability, and a sense of commitment to their home country. Priority is given to applicants who have a proven financial need. The application process is online, wherein interested students will complete an application form and an essay. Successful applicants of the INSEAD-Syngenta MBA Scholarships will receive €22,500 ($25,417). Check out the video below for more information.
The Ampère Scholarships of Excellence is for international students who wish to study a graduate program in the ENS de Lyon in France. Successful applicants are granted with a monthly stipend of €1,000 ($1,129). The scholarship will cover 1 to 2 academic years of enrolment in the END de Lyon. Interested students should submit their application before the 18th of December.
The École Normale Supérieure (ENS) seeks applicants for its scholarship program, which will grant financial aid to 10 international students enrolled under the Sciences courses, and another 10 for those enrolled under the Arts and Humanities courses.
Eligible applicants for the scholarship should be international students who wish to obtain a diploma or a graduate degree from the ENS in France. They should not be older than 26 years at the time of application. The ENS accepts application until October of every year. Successful applicants will receive a monthly stipend of €1,000 ($1,129), and an on-campus room accommodation valid for three academic years.
The Grenoble INP Foundation Scholarships are awarded to qualified international students who want to pursue a graduate study program in the Grenoble Institute of Technology in France. Applicants for the scholarship should not be older than 28 years at the time of application. They should also be proficient in the English language, as it is the medium of instruction used in the institution.
Interested applicants should submit the necessary forms before the 28th of February. They will be evaluated by the Grenoble Institute of Technology Foundation Admission Committee. If successful, applicants are entitled to a financial grant of €5,000 ($5,648) for every semester, within a maximum of one academic year.
