For some though, Singapore will remain a dream because of the expensive costs to be spent over at least 2 years. Tuition fees alone cost around $17,000 per academic year. Funded by the Singapore Government, the Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) invites international applicants willing to obtain a postgraduate degree at a university in Singapore. The SINGA looks for candidates who are interested in a science or engineering doctorate program. All nationalities are eligible to apply for the SINGA. Annually, around 240 scholarships are awarded to qualified candidates.
Annual applications close on the 1st of December. Successful applicants are entitled to receive the following: full tuition fee subsidy, settlement allowance, travel allowance to and from Singapore (one-time), and a monthly stipend. The scholarship will cover all academic years (maximum of 4) until the study program is completed. They are also entitled to do their postgraduate research requirement at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) or the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD).
The Commonwealth Scholarship Program is looking for international students who want to pursue a postgraduate or doctorate degree in integrative sciences and engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Graduate School. Eligible applicants for the scholarship are international students from any Commonwealth country. They should be interested to study a certain field related to science, engineering, computing, or some areas in medicine. Also, they have to hold excellent academic qualifications from their previous degrees. Applicants are also required to submit their scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and a language proficiency test in English (i.e. TOEFL).
Applications for the scholarship close in May. Successful applicants are granted a full tuition fee subsidy, allowances for books, computer facilities, and conferences, and a monthly stipend. The Commonwealth Scholarship is good for 4 years at most, enough to cover until the completion of the postgraduate study program at NUS.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Japanese Government, through the ADB-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP), provides scholarship opportunities for international students from ADB’s developing member countries to pursue a graduate or postgraduate study program in a recognized university in Asia, Australia, or New Zealand. Eligible applicants should enroll in a study program related to economics, management, health, agriculture, environment, education, natural resource management, science and technology, or other development-related courses. Likewise, they should not be more than 35 years of age on the date of application. Annually, the ADB-JSP announces approximately 300 scholarship awards to qualified candidates.
Successful applicants are entitled to full tuition fee subsidy, accommodation allowance, book and instructional materials allowance, medical insurance, travel expenses, and a monthly stipend. The ADB-JSP is good for an academic year, and may be extended to another year provided that the scholar had performed satisfactorily in the previous year.
The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) seeks international students who wish to pursue an undergraduate degree program at the university. Interested applicants may choose a study program they are interested in, provided that it is included in the NTU’s list of courses. All nationalities are eligible to apply for the Nanyang Undergraduate Scholarships. However, applicants will be evaluated according to academic qualifications and English language proficiency (for non-native English speakers).
Applications for the Nanyang Scholarships may be submitted together with the admission application. Likewise, the deadline for submission of scholarship forms is the same as the admission deadlines. Successful applicants are entitled to full tuition fee subsidy, book allowance, living allowance, one-time settling-in allowance, one-time travel allowance, accommodation allowance, computer allowance, and membership and participation to scholars’ events and outreach programs.
The Lee Foundation offers the Lee Kong Chian Graduate Scholarships at the National University of Singapore (NUS). The scholarship is intended for international students who want to study a postgraduate course at the NUS. Applicants can choose which study program they want to attend in the NUS. All nationalities are invited to apply for the Lee Kong Chian Graduate Scholarships.
Annual applications close on the 15th of November. Successful applicants will receive the following: tuition fees, examination fees, university fees, book allowance, travel allowance (one-time roundtrip plane ticket to and from Singapore), laptop allowance, and a monthly stipend. The scholarship grant is good for an academic year, which can be extended for a maximum of 4 years provided the scholar has outstanding academic performance in the previous years.
The Singapore Government is providing scholarship awards for international students from Southeast Asia (Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN member countries). Through the Singapore Government Scholarships, Singapore invites all prospective undergraduate Southeast Asian students who want to study at the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, or the Singapore Management University. Eligible applicants should have an outstanding academic background, an excellent command of the English language, and a slot in one of the aforementioned Singaporean universities. The screening process will include an examination and an interview.
Annual applications close on the 14th of December. Successful applicants will be given full tuition fee subsidy, accommodation allowance, living allowance, and plane tickets to and from Singapore. The scholarship will cover the entire duration of the study program.
The ASEAN Foundation (AF), in cooperation with the National University of Singapore, invites international applicants from ASEAN countries to its ASEAN Foundation Research Scholarship. Interested applicants should be willing to enroll at the NUS under the faculties of law, arts and social sciences, design and environment, or the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. They should enroll in courses related to development, environment, or information technology. Furthermore, only graduate students are eligible to submit applications for the AF Scholarships.
Annual applications close on the 15th of May (for the January semester) and the 15th of November (for the August semester). Successful applicants are entitled to a full tuition fee subsidy, book allowance, accommodation allowance, travel allowance to and from Singapore, graduation fees, and a monthly stipend.
The Greendale Foundation is providing scholarships to international students who wish to enroll in the INSEAD’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program. The INSEAD Greendale Foundation MBA Scholarships are intended for international applicants from South and East Africa. The evaluating committee gives priority to disadvantaged Africans who have spent the majority of their life studying or working in Africa.
Applications for the INSEAD Greendale Foundation MBA Scholarships close in April. Successful applicants are entitled to a $39,700 tuition fee grant. They should return to their home country within 3 years of completing the MBA program in Singapore.
The INSEAD Nelson Mandela Endowment Scholarships, sponsored by the INSEAD MBA Class of ’75, seek international students from Africa who wish to pursue an MBA in INSEAD-Singapore. This scholarship was created in honor of South Africa’s Nelson Mandela. Eligible applicants for the scholarship are financially disadvantaged students from a sub-Saharan African country. They must be committed to serving their home countries upon completion of the study program.
Applications close on the 7th of May and the 25th of June for the December intake. Successful applicants will receive a $22,700 scholarship funding.
Syngenta, a world-leading agribusiness, and INSEAD have formed a partnership to introduce the INSEAD-Syngenta MBA Scholarships for Developing Country Leaders. Eligible applicants for this scholarship are international students from developing or emerging countries throughout the world who wish to attend the MBA program in INSEAD Singapore. They must have an excellent academic background as well as a passion for business leadership.
Singapore will no longer remain a distant dream when you are able to get funding from any of the above mentioned scholarship programs.
