New Year’s Day
New Year’s Day is celebrated on January 1st to mark the beginning of a new year according to the Gregorian calendar.

Independence Day
Independence Day marks the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence from the new Soviet Russia to form the Republic of Estonia. This day is observed on February 24th and marks Estonia’s national day.

Good Friday
Good Friday is observed on the Friday before Easter in celebration of the crucifixion of Jesus. The festivities on this day mark the foundation of Christianity and is a day of mourning where Christians ponder on the suffering of Jesus, His death and what it means for their faith.

Easter Sunday

Spring Day
Also known as May Day, Labor Day or International Workers Day, Spring Day is observed on May 1st in celebration of the achievements of the labor movements in Estonia.

Pentecost Sunday
Pentecost Sunday, also known as Whit Sunday, is observed fifty days after Easter in celebration of the descend of the Holy Spirit as flames to the apostles, as documented in the New Testament in Acts 2.

Victory Day
Victory Day is observed on June 23rd to mark the primary victory in the 1919 battle of Vonnu when Estonians and their allies defeated German forces who intended to re-establish Baltic-Germany over the region. Today, this day is celebrated in commemoration of the contributions of all Estonians in their struggle to attain independence.

St. John’s Day
St. John’s Day is observed on June 24th in celebration of St. John the Baptist. This day marks the birthday of St. John which is believed to have been six months before the birth of Jesus.

Independence Restoration Day
Also referred to as Tasiseseisvumispäev’ in Estonian, Independence Restoration Day is observed on August 20th in celebration of the 1991 re-establishment of independence for Estonia from the Soviet Union Republic.

Ethnicity Day
Ethnicity Day is observed on the third Saturday of October in celebration of the unique Estonian language and cultural identity.

Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve is the day before Christmas and is observed on December 24th.

Christmas Day
Christmas Day is observed on December 25th in celebration of the birth of Jesus.

Boxing Day
Boxing Day, also referred to as the Second Christmas Day or St. Stephen’s Day, is observed on December 26th in celebration of the first Christian martyr, St. Stephen.
