Senior Tunnelling Engineer

Job Summary

As part of our strategy for growth and to further develop our capabilities in the tunnelling sector, Jacobs are looking to hire a Senior Tunnelling Engineer.

Reporting to the Tunnel Regional Lead you will be a key resource in project and work package delivery and have the ability to work with minimal supervision for a range of internal and external clients. Our tunnels team focusses on a range of small to large scale projects from pipejack to large diameter tunnels, utilising techniques from TBM tunnelling to Drill and Blast Methods. Work undertaken can be structural and/or geotechnical in nature.

Sector Experience – The candidate will have demonstrable experience in the design of work packages in the tunnelling sector. Ideally this should cover a wide range of sectors with experience in several or all the following areas: Metro, Highway, Heavy Rail, Utility and Conveyance. Experience in hard rock tunnelling is highly desirable.

Here’s What You’ll Need

• Proven experience in tunnel design.
• Able to provide support to the more junior members of the team as and when required.
• Have experience preparing designs and drawings.
• Be able to write technical reports.
• Demonstrable experience in the design of work packages in the tunnelling sector. Ideally this should cover a wide range of sectors with experience in several or all of the following areas: Metro, Highway, Heavy Rail, Utility and Conveyance.
• Demonstrable expertise in segmental and SCL lining design.
• Experience in hard rock tunnelling is highly desirable.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills.
• MICE Chartered Engineer status.
• A sound academic knowledge of civil/tunnel engineering.
• Knowledge of relevant European codes and standards.
• Strong communication skills with fluency in verbal and written English.
• Computer literate in relevant discipline software such as; Plaxis, FLAC, MIDAS and SAP.
• Team player but with an ability to work independently and manage small teams as required.
