Severn School is located approximately six miles from Annapolis on two separate campuses in Arnold and Severna Park, Maryland. Severn School was originally founded in 1914 to provide academic preparation for the United States Naval Academy. Today we are a day school enrolling over 800 students from preschool through 12th grade.
The greatest gift a parent can provide a child, aside from their love and attention, is an education. It is the most durable inheritance one can pass on. The importance of choosing the right school, then, is vital and involves far more information than a website can provide.
Schools are living things and while technology allows us to pass on information about our programs and people, nothing takes the place of first-hand experience. We believe that interacting with students and faculty and feeling the excitement that characterizes each Severn day is central to understanding just what is so special about our School. The principles of our mission – character, conduct, scholarship, leadership, service and achievement – are certainly alive and readily evident in the life of our school.
Severn School challenges its students to pursue excellence in character, conduct, and scholarship, to marshal the courage to lead, and to develop the lasting desire to serve and achieve. We believe this is best realized in a community where adults model these qualities and where each student is known and valued.
Severn aspires to be an inclusive community where each person is welcomed and affirmed. We find strength and value in our similarities and differences thereby inspiring students and adults to participate in and sustain a vibrant exchange of ideas and perspectives. In designing thoughtful programs and practices, we will broaden a culture of belonging and respect and an appreciation for the complexities within ourselves and others, and foster the desire to participate in a dynamic, global society.
Severn School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, ancestry, age, religion or religious creed, disability or handicap, sex or gender, gender identity and/or expression, sexual orientation, or any other legally protected characteristic in the administration of its employment and personnel policies, educational and admissions policies, financial aid programs, and athletic and other School-administered programs, as and to the full extent required by applicable law.
In every part of our school, we believe the process — the experience — is as valuable as the end result. We challenge our students to pursue excellence in character, conduct, and scholarship, to marshal the courage to lead, and to develop the lasting desire to serve and achieve. We believe this is best realized in a community where adults model these qualities and where each student is known and valued. Our demanding but balanced curriculum gives every student the opportunity to find their purpose and thrive.
Every student learns in their own unique way and we offer structured support to help them pave their path to academic success. At the Hoehn-Saric Family Center for Academic Excellence (Learning Resource Center) Severn students develop effective learning skills and strategies, but also a greater self-awareness and confidence in their own ability to learn and grow.
We seek to provide every student with tools to navigate the vast landscape of information beyond our library doors. We provide the very best in relevant online and print materials, curated to meet the academic, creative and personal interests of students and faculty here at Severn.
High achievers can deal with lots of pressures on their time and energy. Running from AP English to AP Chemistry, from a sports event to the school play practice and home to a study session—it's easy to miss the point of learning, growing up, and discovering your path in life. A person can look 'well-rounded' on paper without being very well balanced in life. Severn teachers, mentors, and even peers help our students learn to weigh their options and reach out for help when they need it. It's not just about academic success, but also finding satisfaction and purpose in life.

Thank you once again for doing your part to keep Edarabia the most trusted education source.
My child has flourished at Severn School in Baltimore. The American curriculum they offer is top-notch, and the teachers are dedicated and supportive. The quality of education is excellent, and my child has made remarkable progress. We couldn't be happier!
