Welcome to Sexey’s, Bruton! Established in 1891, we are a Church of England, non-selective state boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 11-18, based in the beautiful Somerset countryside.  We are ambitious for our students’ academic achievement and provide an inclusive, friendly environment — producing confident young people that are prepared for life, both today and beyond school.  We have a passion and determination to be exceptional in all that we do. At the centre of the school’s ethos you will find our Christian values.

We have 7 Core values that form the basis of our ethos.  These are the building blocks of our individual character and through these we grow and develop as individuals and as a community:

  • Courage
  • Respect
  • Kindness
  • Forgiveness
  • Empathy
  • Honesty
  • Resilience

Parents often ask us what is so special about Sexey’s and what makes it different from other schools. Our reply is that we view every student as unique; valued as an individual, but also part of a family. We are very much a family school, educating brothers and sisters from Year 7 through to Sixth Form. It is our belief that every young person has a personal talent that it is our responsibility to help discover, nurture and develop.

Success for the future
School days have a powerful influence on future success in life and we believe a Sexey’s education can give you the best start.

Our students not only achieve excellent academic qualifications, but they also enjoy a wide range of extra-curricular activities and receive outstanding pastoral care. However successful you are in life, to be truly happy and fulfilled you need to have successful relationships with others. We provide our students with the knowledge, skills, experiences and confidence to allow them to be truly successful on their journey of lifelong learning

A website can only give you a brief glimpse of school life. You are warmly invited to visit and experience for yourself what we believe to be a very special school. We look forward to meeting you soon.

Why choose Sexey’s School?
Our aim at Sexey’s is to support our students in fulfilling their potential both academically and socially. We believe that this is achieved by setting high standards of teaching, learning and care. We hope that this comes across through browsing this website, but you are always very welcome to arrange to visit us to see for yourself.

Wide range of extra-curricular opportunity
We believe education is about more than grades: it is about an awareness of the world, about independent thought, about values. It is about the benefits of team sport, of culture, of academic ambition. It is about learning with enthusiasm. It is about growing up in a safe and caring community where all, staff and children alike, are passionate about what they do. That is what we aspire to and, I am confident, deliver.

Christian ethos
Sexey’s is a Church of England school and our values are broadly based on the positive aspects of the Christian ethos. However a Sexey’s education is very much focused on the holistic development of the person and students are encouraged to seek their own answers to questions concerning religion, life, self and their place within the bigger picture.

Sexey’s shares a school chaplain with two local schools, who is available to meet and discuss with students who wish to explore aspects of faith or spiritual issues. The school also has its own purpose built chapel, known as ‘The Sanctuary’ in the Rex Waller building, where students are able to spend time in quiet reflection or take part in services.

We have close links with both the Diocese of Bath and Wells and St Mary’s Church in Bruton, with all boarders attending regular sunday services there. Through the year St Mary’s runs confirmation classes and less formal Youth Alpha courses for those who want to find out more about Christianity.

Rev. Justin Bailey from St Mary’s sits on the school’s governing body and takes an active role in the school’s chaplaincy team.

Our vision
At Sexey’s, we work together with a determination to be exceptional in all that we do.

Our values
We place students at the heart of everything. Each student is unique and special and joins us with their own individual skills, qualities and aspirations that it is our privilege and responsibility to grow, develop and nurture. At the centre of the school’s ethos you will find our Christian values. We have seven core values: these are the building blocks of our individual character and through these we grow and develop as individuals and as a community.
