Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School

Founded and funded by the Shanghai Education Commission, Minhang District and Qibao Town, Shanghai, Qibao Dwight High School is innovative in implementing East-West cooperative education at the high school level. Our unique educational philosophy distinguishes Shanghai Qibao Dwight as a renowned educator of the next generation of global leaders ― one student at a time. Our board is jointly governed by Qibao High School and the Dwight School, driving our mission to create a learning environment that fits the changing landscape of education and serves as a laboratory for the cultivation of internationally-minded students who will be innovators in society.

The emergence of globalization, the progress made in implementing the Shanghai Educational Internationalization Strategy, the endorsement of education by leaders in the Minhang District, and the shared educational goals of Qiu Zhonghai, the former principal of Shanghai Qibao High School, and Director Stephen H. Spahn of Dwight School in the United States have led to the realization of a cross-border educational partnership between these two institutions. This partnership resulted in the establishment of Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School in February 2014, making it the first independently-run Sino-foreign cooperative high school in Shanghai, as well as the first independently-run Sino-US cooperative high school in China. As the pioneer of Sino-foreign cooperative high school education, we are actively exploring and pushing our boundaries, with the aim of setting a practical example for Sino-foreign cooperative education in high schools.

Our educational philosophy revolves around igniting the spark of genius in every child, with a focus on laying a strong foundation for a beautiful life. We believe in whole-person education, which is centered on cultivating excellent students who possess a global outlook, cross-cultural understanding, a dedication to personal growth, and exceptional character. Our commitment to personalized education involves creating unique paths for each student based on their interests, talents, and passions. Our goal is not only to provide students with a solid academic foundation for college but also to instill strong values, build a foundation of belief, and develop vital skills in communication, cooperation, organization, and leadership. We aim to empower our students to become physically, mentally, and spiritually healthy individuals who are fearless lifelong learners.

At our school, we offer a diverse range of educational programs to provide our students with a comprehensive and personalized learning experience. Our curriculum includes IB and A-level courses, as well as courses in the Chinese National Curriculum such as Chinese, History, Geography, and Politics. We also provide access to a variety of courses via online platforms, such as Dwight Global, to allow students the opportunity to pursue their individual passion. Students can choose from a variety of academic courses across six areas of study: Studies in Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Social Studies, Sciences, Mathematics, and Arts. Our curriculum also includes three core courses: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay (EE), and Creative Action Service (CAS). Additionally, our school offers electives and programs in the six themes of "gold, wood, water, fire, earth, and wind" to help students balance their learning across various areas and cater to their individual learning abilities, interests, and aspirations. Our aim is to provide a highly selective, well-rounded, and personalized learning platform for our students.

Our students have the opportunity to apply for short-term courses and study-away programs at Dwight's global campuses. This provides them with a chance to experience the unique educational and cultural atmosphere, as well as diverse learning styles, of different countries. Our students also have the opportunity to study and live alongside peers from all over the world. Additionally, students can participate in various overseas exchange programs, such as the Dwight Global Music Festival, Dwight London Choir Festival, and Dwight Spark Series. These programs allow students to engage in thematic exploration and training activities with children from all around the world, along with other cultural exchange, charity, and social practice activities that are planned by the school and community organizations, institutions, and companies. Our school's partnership with Dwight's global alumni network provides our students with a broad platform for career development, and the opportunity to reconnect and share resources with Qibao Dwight alumni.

At Qibao Dwight, we actively seek to embrace diversity in all aspects of our school community, including our curriculum, teaching methods, extracurricular activities, faculty, management, and culture. When we reflect on Qibao Dwight's mission throughout our history, we can trace it back to our foundational school philosophy of "laying a beautiful foundation for life by igniting the spark of genius in every child." This philosophy has evolved into our current goal of creating a high-quality, internationalized, Sino-foreign cooperative high school that prioritizes people, public welfare, and quality, and emphasizes the cultivation of excellent students with a global outlook, cross-cultural understanding, personal development, and outstanding character.

As part of this mission, we have developed the seven virtues values of integrity, discipline, kindness, respect, cooperation, creativity, and tenacity. These values have been refined through discussions among our teachers and students, and they serve as guiding principles for our educational and teaching practices. We have also developed a school culture that emphasizes the importance of "Dao Zhi Jing Wei, De Xing Cang Hai," which is a result of refining the seven virtues. Each day at Qibao Dwight brings new opportunities for growth and renewal, and we are continually inspired by the creativity and diverse passions of our students and faculty.
