Furthermore we can cultivate the qualities of true healthcare professionals that possess high morality and rich sociality that could practice healthcare with a rich sense of humanity appropriate to the profession, that strive toward improving healthcare without neglecting learning and research throughout life.

Aimed to nurture capable health care personnel who can "feel the pain" of others. Showa University performs "whole man" education to nurture not only knowledge, and skills, but also humanity and original creativity which are necessary for the pursuit of the science. This education philosophy is consistent in not only the 4 schools, but also in the College of Nursing, and the College of Medical Radiology. The entire system is devoted to nurture health care personnel who can "feel the pain" of others.

Collaboration research to bring forth valuable information recognized by both domestic and international societies. The special feature of Showa University research is the collaboration research contributed by all four schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Nursing and Rehabilitation Sciences. Researchers both collaborate and compete beyond the margin of their speciality with other Showa University researchers, resulting in many achievements in various fields of life sciences every year. These achievements are presented at numerous society meetings and many high quality publications from Showa University are widely recognized both domestically and internationally.

The eight affiliated hospitals of Showa University, each with its own originality and speciality, provide high-tech referral and a high standard of general community medicine, with careful consideration given to patient QOL. Today, facing rapid changes in the medical system, Showa University has taken the initiative to install new programs. Showa University was one of the first to incorporate the risk management system to establish safety in medical care.

The features of education at Showa University include updates from professors at other school thus taking advantage of Showa University being a general medical university, and a vast array of clinical training at the 8 affiliated hospitals. Students, by experiencing the clinical setting from an early stage, can appreciate the dignity of life and learn with a clear sense of purpose. Also, with the teaching staff working on the front line, they can provide thorough instruction that is highly detailed. These features all lead to higher than national average passing rates of all national board exams.

The uniqueness of the education at Showa University is that the 1st year education for all four schools (Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Nursing and Rehabilitation Sciences) is carried out at the base of Mt. Fuji, the highest and most beautiful mountain in Japan, with all students staying in a dormitory. The peak of Mt. Fuji is at an altitude of 3,776 meters; it is located in the center of Japan, and it is an active volcano that has repeatedly erupted for almost 7,000 years. Although it has been quiet since the last eruption, which was about 300 years ago, because the repeated eruptions have caused disasters and flooding due to melted snow, Mt. Fuji has been awed as a spiritual height since ancient times.
