Welcome, and thank you for your interest in our dynamic school located in the pristine Snowy Mountains region of New South Wales. Our mission to work with families to develop well-rounded individuals stems from our belief in an holistic education that is underpinned by strong values and character-based education. Indeed, it does take a village to raise a child, and a strong sense of community is a core feature of Snowy Mountains Grammar School.
We have a responsibility to educate the hearts and minds of those most precious in our community, where they, in turn, will make meaningful contributions to the wider community now and into the future. Our moral imperative is to inspire the next generation of citizens and leaders to act ethically, to have empathy for others less fortunate, and to make a difference by achieving excellence in their chosen pathway in life.

The chosen career paths of so many of our alumni are inspiring to us all. Careers are a rapidly-evolving construct in society, with an appetite for disruption now firmly embedded in globally connected economies. Our attitude, as a provider of a modern education, is to remain open and agile, to innovate so as to improve the experience for students, and to prepare them for the world they are entering, not the one that we, as adults, experienced when we were at school.
Having a positive and determined attitude is fundamental to embracing lifelong learning, achieving personal success and experiencing fulfilment in life. Critically, this process begins at a very young age, and the sooner young individuals are immersed in positive, productive and caring environments, the better – this is our gift to our children. Our dedicated staff care deeply about our students and this makes all the difference.

Now is an exciting time to be part of Snowy Mountains Grammar School, with so many different opportunities being created in a wide range of learning areas and in co-curricular interests. A high-quality and well-rounded education is offered right here in the Snowy Mountains, where every student can find their own path in life – or create their own. Our learning environment, methodology, programs and physical spaces are constantly evolving to meet the needs of a variety of learner types and we do not believe in a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to learning.
Our website provides some insight into what we offer our students and we hope you find this appealing. If it does, there is nothing like visiting our campus and experiencing first-hand the ‘feel’ of who we are and what we might offer your children for their future.
Our mission is to work with families to develop well-rounded young people with active and creative minds, who have an understanding of and compassion for others, a passion for life-long learning and the courage and confidence to act on their beliefs.
Snowy Mountains Grammar School will be recognised as a premier day and boarding school community, offering a diverse range of opportunities, leading to the development of outstanding citizens equipped for an ever-changing world.
Snowy Mountains Grammar School commenced operations in 1996 in response to a direct request from the local community to Redlands for the inception of independent local secondary education in Jindabyne.
Premises for the school were found in the former Snowy Mountains Authority Headquarters on the Kosciuszko Road in Jindabyne, which have been transformed into a well-appointed educational centre, with a unique industrial edge, highlighting the facility’s history.
The school opened on the first day with 11 students, with enrolments up to 15 by the end of the day. Since then, the school has continued to expand and now educates over 250 students.
As well as offering an affordable independent education to a small but vibrant and growing rural community, the school offers a unique alpine boarding experience, with 46 beds available in the boarding house.
The school, although founded by Redlands, has always operated as a separate entity and has created firm foundations in the local community. The school finalised its separation from Redlands in 2009 and now operates as a totally independent entity.
The school is proud of its history and of the impression it has made on the local community, offering the parents of high school age children an alternative to boarding school or the need to move to a new community to complete their children’s education.
