A very warm welcome to St. Anne (Stanley) C of E Primary and Nursery School. Our school is situated in the Old Swan area of the vibrant city of Liverpool. We are a thriving church school and proud of our very strong links to St. Anne’s Church and the local community.

The school was founded in 1914 and officially opened in July 1915. We celebrated being ‘a hundred years old’ in July 2015.

St. Anne’s provides a happy, safe and stimulating environment. ‘The school’s work to keep pupils safe and secure is outstanding’ (Ofsted 2014). We value the contribution of every child, encouraging them to develop as individuals. Our school offers places for children from Nursery age through to Year 6.

We are hardworking, dedicated and have high expectations to ensure that our children not only achieve their best academically but become caring, respectful and confident citizens for the future.

The ‘Every Child Matters’ agenda centres on universal expectations for every child, that are mutually reinforcing and can narrow the gap between less advantaged children and their peers. As a church school we embrace this vision from a Christian perspective that accepts and respects all as unique ‘children of God, precious in his sight and of infinite worth.

Our church school delivers education from a Christian perspective in which each child is valued, has access to learning excellence, and enjoys holistic education in a socially cohesive and integrated, Christian community.

Each child is accepted as a unique ‘child of God’. In a Christian environment the individual child’s needs will be recognised and met, as and when they arise. A personalised plan will be designed to provide support and challenge in academic and personal development. This will encourage achievement of the child’s highest potential, the gaining of self-esteem and growth as an independent, responsible citizen.

We have a vision of children developing lives that reflect Christian values and teaching as we nurture personal, faith and spiritual growth. We attempt to do this by visiting six values throughout the year.

Our Foundation Stage consists of the Nursery and Reception classes. The aim of the Foundation Stage is to lay a secure foundation for future learning and development. Individual needs and interests of the children are taken into account and are used as a basis for future planning.

The EYFS curriculum is made up of the 7 areas of learning. The most important areas are Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language and Physical Development.

At St. Anne’s we aim to provide a stimulating environment, both indoor and outdoor, which encourages exploration, investigation and creativity. Play is an important part of a child’s development and as such opportunities are given for both independent and cooperative daily play.

Our phonics programme is based on ‘Letters and Sounds’ (Phase One to Four), Jolly Phonics (Phase Two and Three) and Liverpool School Improvement Plans (Year One and Two phonics). These resources provide a structured scheme to support teachers and teaching assistants in delivering daily, high quality synthetic phonics across The Foundation Stage, Key Stage One and early Key Stage Two. We aim to provide all our pupils with multi-sensory, fun and engaging phonic sessions.

We are now following the Oxford Reading Tree and TreeTops reading schemes, ensuring that we are providing the very best for every child. The children really seem to be enjoying the new books which give a lot more variety to ensure all needs are met. Each child’s reading level has been carefully decided by the class teacher, who will continually monitor to ensure every child is making the best progress they can.
