We are Australia’s oldest independent Anglican girls’ school. Our purpose is to develop young women of character and intellect who are equipped to make their unique contribution to the world. With Academic Challenge and Academic Care the twin pillars of our approach to education, St Catherine’s girls are encouraged to

  • Love school
  • Embrace life
  • Enrich the world

St Catherine's caters for girls from Kindergarten to Year 12, and for boarding students from Years 7 to 12. We welcome girls of all backgrounds and respect the different strengths of each student, acknowledging that diversity enriches our community. For 165 years, many girls like you have come through our gates in Sydney. We would love to welcome you too. At st catherine's we value

  • INTEGRITY is demonstrated through honesty, fair-mindedness and acting in accordance with sound ethical principles. The power of personal integrity enriches and strengthens our community, and ultimately our society.
  • RESILIENCE enables us to rebound from adversity with optimism for the future. It gives us the courage to embrace challenge, make hard decisions and persevere in difficult circumstances. Resilience gives us the strength of character to stand up for our beliefs in the face of opposition.
  • RESPECT is the foundation of strong relationships, enabling us to treat others with consideration and dignity. Within our community respect, encouragement and mutual care are fostered, and our diverse backgrounds, skills and contributions are celebrated.
  • RELATIONSHIPS lie at the heart of all interactions. Strong relationships are good for our health and wellbeing, enabling us to feel valued and value the contributions of others. They also help buffer us when life is difficult. We cherish the relationships central to our community, and value the cooperative, constructive interactions vital for effective, inclusive participation in our global society.
  • SERVICE is love in action, as shown to us in the person of Jesus Christ. Considering the needs of others, with an attitude of compassion and generosity, enables us to develop our own sense of belonging while building connections with others. Service strengthens communities, builds character and improves others' and our own wellbeing.

Established in 1856, we are proud to be Australia's oldest independent Anglican girls’ school. Our teachers embrace the latest educational research balancing clear instruction with engagement. They help each girl to learn in the way that is right for her, giving her the academic rigour she needs and the tools she can use to flourish at school. When she leaves, we want her to be well educated, well rounded and well balanced – ready for further study, ready for life.

The foundation of learning at St Catherine’s is what we call Academic Challenge. We offer a broad, differentiated curriculum with a focus on meeting individual student needs, plus other forms of enrichment, extension and the opportunity for acceleration.

Our teachers really get to know the students to gain a deep understanding of their talents and interests as well as areas that may need some work. We will help your daughter develop a resilient mindset and show her how to apply it to her learning.

Academic Challenge is part of a learning philosophy that will help your daughter to become accomplished. She can then approach her final years at school with the confidence she will need to enter university and the career to which she aspires.
