At St. Christopher's, we have a friendly and open atmosphere in which the children are encouraged to maximise their potential and to work and play to the best of their ability. We believe that a happy, caring and secure environment is vital to the development of the child as an individual, where good manners and respect for others are highly regarded and learning is structured and fun.

St. Christopher's provides a varied, balanced curriculum which leads to competitive entry to Independent Senior Schools and Selective Grammars at 11 years. (We do not encourage or prepare children for entry at any other age). Extra-curricular activity is an essential means of supporting the curriculum. A comprehensive and varied programme which includes sports fixtures, educational visits and concerts accommodates as many pupils as possible. Opportunity is thereby available to all pupils to develop their interest in Art, Drama, Computing, Music, Sport and many more areas.

An experienced and well qualified staff, combined with the support of the parents, form a partnership and establish a unity within which the children from St. Christopher’s flourish and succeed.

The school exists to provide a happy and hard-working environment where all pupils can find the opportunity to develop their talents to the full within a wide and well-balanced curriculum. Each pupil is treated as an individual and encouraged to aim for the highest standards in whatever he/she is doing. Our aims are:

  • To deliver a high quality inspirational teaching and learning experience for our pupils that promotes high standards for all
  • To develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours that will allow pupils to fulfil their potential, to know the difference between right and wrong, acquire resilience and be courteous.
  • To prepare our pupils for the 11+ school entrance, and equip them to succeed at their new schools
  • To emphasise the breadth of the curriculum, including Computing, Drama, French, Music and Sport, as well as English, Mathematics and Science
  • To nurture and support all abilities, helping every child to achieve his/her potential in every area of learning – intellectual, emotional, physical, social, moral, spiritual and cultural
  • To ensure pupils feel safe and secure, and enjoy coming to school
  • To develop learning activities which stimulate positive models of enquiry, reflection, challenge and innovation
  • To value and recognise the uniqueness and achievement of every member of our school family
  • To promote British values and attitudes of care, tolerance, trust and respect within the school and wider communities
  • To promote good teamwork and positive partnerships – with individual children, the whole class, our colleagues, with governors, parents and the wider community
