Welcome to the St Hugh’s Catholic Primary School. St Hugh’s Catholic Primary School is a caring school, who ensure that the children can become the best possible learners they can be. Every member of staff is committed to providing the children with a happy, well-disciplined nurturing environment where the children can thrive and make the most of every learning opportunity offered to them. We are ambitious for all our children. We aim to be a school where all the children are inspired to see learning as a lifelong experience, thus empowering them to make good choices in later life.
We promote the best possible academic, cultural and moral values in an inclusive environment. All our children, regardless of background, culture, religious belief or ability, are equally valued, supported and challenged.
St Hugh’s Catholic Primary School aspires to be easily accessible to parents. A successful school is one where there is a partnership between school and home and we welcome your support and input.
St Hugh’s School provides a welcoming, safe and secure environment for all. Our school aims to be a community which reflects real gospel values of love and forgiveness. A community in which each individual, child or adult, can work in an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding; so as to broaden their appreciation of the world, its cultures and its people.
At St. Hugh’s Catholic Primary School, we take our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain very seriously. We ensure that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed and lived out through the ethos and work of our school. Our Catholic ethos and all of our curriculum areas provide a platform for developing these concepts. Children embrace them with enthusiasm and demonstrate a good understanding of their application to their own lives.
We make considerable efforts to ensure children have exposure to a wide experience beyond their local community during which these concepts are shown. The children’s strong values-based understanding gives them an excellent platform for embracing difference.
The four fundamental British Values are: Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Respect and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs.
Our Awards: Reading Quality Mark, Contribution to the Community Award, International School Award Intermediate Level Autumn 2017, History Quality Mark, School of Sanctuary Award.
Through the curriculum, we aim to prepare pupils for the opportunities, experiences and responsibilities of adult life and to lay a firm foundation for future learning. We seek to provide a broad, balanced differentiated curriculum and offer a wide range of exciting, challenging activities and experiences to all pupils irrespective of ability, background, ethnic origin or gender.
We acknowledge that people learn in many different ways and we recognise the need to develop strategies that allow all children to learn in ways that suit them. Opportunities are planned to cater for a range of different learning styles to ensure that all children can access the curriculum and learn in a way that is best for them.
There is very strong evidence linking reading for pleasure and the success a child has later on in life. The benefits of reading for pleasure go way beyond academic attainment and stretch throughout a person’s whole life. Children who read for enjoyment every day not only perform better in school than those who don’t, they also develop a broader vocabulary, increased general knowledge and a better understanding of different cultures.
Reading for pleasure can result in improved relationships with others, increased empathy, lower levels of stress and an improved general wellbeing. Reading is not just something children should do in school. It needs to be an everyday part of their lives – something they will choose to do as adults too.
At St. Hugh’s Catholic Primary School we teach Religious Education using Come and See which is a Catholic Primary Religious Education Programme.
Religious Education is the core subject which is central to life at St. Hugh’s. Come and See offers the opportunity to search, to explore, to discover and to respond.
St. Hugh’s is a rich and diverse community. During Jesus’ life on earth he met people of diverse backgrounds and religious groups who were different from himself. He showed respect for those inside and outside his own faith community. We are committed to respecting people of other faiths and to recognise that God is at work within them. Come and See supports and enables the faith experience of all children because it starts with their real life experiences. We try to promote their human growth in such a way that they can integrate their own faith with every aspect of their lives.
