A school named St.John Bosco was managed by the bishop for the grownup boys school deserted in Bankshal steet. Due to the congestion there , a school building was put up in Rakka road in a land donated to a religious brother. Rev Fr.James started the building in 1954, it was completed in 1955 January. Later it was managed by the Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Cathedral Jaffna, Rev. Fr. John Mary Couchouron OMI under the patronage of Bishop of Jaffna . In that same school grade one was started in that same year. In One side the education for the grown ups continued. The teaching was done by a retired Head teacher and an Assistant teacher.

The thought of running a school in Jaffna was sown in the congregation of the Apostolic Carmel in June 1955, by the Bishop of Jaffna Rt. Rev. Dr. Bishop J. Emilianuspillai OMI, the first native bishop. (The first bishop of the land) The person to receive the inspiration was Sr.Odelia. the superior of the convent of Our Lady of Lanka Atthuvely.

In 1957 his Lordship was ready to hand over the school to our congregation. At that time the congregation could not provide a Head teacher. A trained teacher Miss. Rita Gnanapragasam who was to join our congregation in the month of July of that year was asked to take up the school.

In July the newly professed sisters arrived from India. On he 18th of July 1957 Sr. Stanislaus Mary, one among the four great pillars of the future school took up the school. She was the first Principal of the School. (Formerly the person in charge of the school was named Head teacher)

Thus the Golden era of St. John Bosco School was dawning in the Peninsula. Apostolic Carmel Sisters took up the School, the School building was 180 feet in length. But without proper furniture and equipments. There were classes from one to four and one part of the school was occupied by an adult class of over age boys. The Swapaasa Medium (Vernacular Medium of teaching) was introduced as medium of teaching and St. John Boscos school was a school of Tamil medium school.

To put an end to the continuous problem of lack of space Sr. Selvaranee sought for ways and means to put up a building.
