We are situated on Highgate Hill, opposite Waterlow Park and within walking distance of Archway underground station and many bus routes. We have the most amazing outdoor and indoor facilities for children to learn and play. We provide a very stimulating academic curriculum, together with a strong tradition of music and many additional activities including an environmental club, orchestra, dance, drama and sport.

We are an Ofsted rated ‘outstanding’ school, with an ethos based on Faith, Community and a true partnership between school and the families of the children we teach. Our school life is rich in opportunities to learn and to worship both as individuals and as part of a strong, supportive environment. We are fortunate to have strong links with St Joseph’s Parish Community Church.

Our nursery is an oasis of calm and provides a fantastic outdoor, woodland space for children to explore. It has a wonderfully spacious and colourful learning environment with the most up-to-date facilities to encourage children to develop successfully and progress securely onto ‘big school’.

We are totally committed to the development of each child, to offer them the very best start to their formal education and to support their faith. We aim to provide an education that is rich in opportunities and experiences and one which influences a lifelong love of learning.

Mission Statement: "Our family at St Joseph’s Learns, Loves and Grows with God at the centre".

Values: We believe that the purpose of St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary school is to

  • Help pupils to learn, love and grow in a Catholic environment leading to acceptance and respect of others in a diverse school community and wider world
  • Provide an environment in which high aspirations lead to excellence in all areas of school life
  • Educate and develop each member of the school community by building on their strengths and supporting their weaknesses
  • Foster purposeful relationships with those who learn, work and visit our school where diverse views and backgrounds are respected

As a Catholic faith community, mutual respect is at the heart of our values. Children learn their behaviours have an impact on themselves and others. All members of the school community treat each other with respect as we actively encourage children to live out our Mission Statement of “To Learn, Love and Grow with God at the Centre” on a daily basis. This is promoted through staff modelling the behaviour, RE lessons, assemblies, Prayer services, class circle time and pupils are encouraged to show respect to all members of our school & Parish community.

The local area surrounding St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School is socially, ethnically and culturally diverse. As a Catholic school we are fully aware of the importance of promoting tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs, in Autumn and Summer term there are two themed weeks; Judaism and Islam to reflect two of the larger faith groups within the local area. Our RE teaching also reinforces this, with two weeks given to the study of two other faiths (Judaism and Islam) in some detail.

Members of different faiths or religions (including staff members) are encouraged to share their knowledge to enhance learning within classes and the school. Children visit places of worship that are important to different faiths. In our library we also provide reading material on other faiths.

In the Early Years foundation stage each child is allocated a key worker who will help to settle your child into nursery. Then throughout your child’s time in the nursery they will make observations of your child’s progress and learning. The Class Teacher will then speak to you about how your child is settling in and the progress they are making and you may speak to your child’s Teacher at any time.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development. We will encourage your child to:

  • Learn to share toys and equipment
  • Learn how to value and interact with others
  • Develop independence and confidence
  • Understand the difference between right and wrong
  • Be aware of their own needs/feelings and those of others
  • Learn about the Catholic faith
  • Develop respect for a range of cultures and beliefs
  • Form good relationships with adults and their peers
  • Work as part of a team

This will be achieved through: Circle-time activities. Games. Stories. School worship and celebration. Religious education topics. Group and independent work. Free and structured play.
