Our two beautiful school buildings nestle in the heart of Wimbledon Common and Village. The breadth of academic achievement, the wealth of creative opportunities and most of all our happy, stimulated girls define The Study as one of the leading prep schools for girls in South West London. We pride ourselves on our reputation for academic and creative excellence and for nurturing well-rounded, confident, caring girls with a love of learning, a broad outlook, good manners and a real zest for life. Our girls go on to leading senior schools, and 2018 has been another record year for our Year 6 group, with no less than 39 scholarships offered by top senior schools. The school is celebrating its 125 Anniversary this year, and we are holding a special event for our Alumnae on June 16 2018.

The Study fosters academic and creative achievement while nurturing well-rounded, confident, caring girls with a love of learning, a broad outlook, good manners and a real zest for life.

In Reception, teaching is based on the Foundation Stage Curriculum. In the rest of the school, our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum, but is not limited by it, and there is increasing emphasis on preparing for senior school 11+ examinations as girls move through the school.

Girls are given a strong foundation in the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science, but also enjoy a broad range of other subjects including Humanities, French, Spanish (Year 6), Art, ICT, DT, Music, Ballet, Drama and PE. There is specialist teaching in many subjects throughout the school. Girls also have the opportunity to develop their social education through our PSHE programme.

The curriculum at The Study is designed to be balanced, creative and rigorous; through it, we aim to challenge and stretch our pupils and to enable them to develop their individual abilities and interests. The curriculum in Reception, Pre-Prep and Prep is explained fully in the drop down sections, along with curriculum resumes that will give you a detailed overview of our subject content.

The Board of Governors is responsible for the overall conduct and strategic direction of the school rather than its day to day operation. Collectively, the Board is responsible for shaping policy and identifying strategic objectives; ensuring compliance with statutory obligations; taking stock of the school’s development plan and protecting the school’s assets. More specifically, the Board appoints the Head and the Bursar and advises on the appointment of the senior management team; it also monitors the effectiveness of the management structure and takes an informed view on the School’s educational performance and the interests and welfare of the whole School community. The Board of Governors has a particular duty to review the school’s short and long term financial position and approves major investment, budgets and salaries. The current Board, which meets termly, comprises the Chairman and a team of six others, ensuring a balance of experience and sector expertise.

The Values-based Education initiative forms part of The Study's School Improvement Plan and we will use the programme to further enrich our positive climate for teaching and learning, alongside our existing personal and social education programme. It creates a strong learning environment that enhances academic achievement, and develops the girls' social and relationship skills that last throughout their lives. Each month, we look at one value and there will be a range of opportunities, both in some lessons and in assemblies, to reflect on the value in question. An important part of the success of the programme is ensuring that we keep you fully informed about the values focused on in school, so that you can encourage your daughter to share what she has been learning in school and hopefully show the same value at home.

The Study ensures that every day is filled with fun and learning for our girls. They enjoy a variety of academic subjects, interspersed with creative activities, breaks, and lunch time and after school clubs.

The Study is a mutually supportive community, which includes the girls, their parents and all the staff, teaching and non-teaching. Above all else, The Study has an atmosphere of warmth, openness and happiness where the girls feel secure, well looked after and highly valued.

The individual care and development of each and every girl is the mission of The Study. We ensure, through excellent teaching, a kind and nurturing environment, and the encouragement of individual talents and interests, that every girl feels valued and a special part of the whole. The importance of kindness, friendship and respect for others is developed through example and actions, where bad manners and hurtful behaviour towards others are not tolerated.

The form teacher plays a key role in ensuring the general well-being and happiness of each girl in her care, in all aspects of school life. However, all staff play their part and the girls know they can turn to any teacher if they have a problem or are unhappy. The girls are also encouraged to look out for each other too.Assemblies are an important part of the school day, providing an opportunity for the girls and staff to gather together as a community. They usually comprise a hymn, a story or discussion point and a prayer. As well as the important role they play in developing the girls’ social, moral and cultural awareness, they also provide an important opportunity to celebrate achievement and effort, in work and behaviour.

Through the clubs we provide, girls discover new talents and interests, and are able to 'have a go' at anything on offer that might appeal to them. Clubs also provide opportunities to develop other important attributes such as commitment, co-operation and initiative.

One of the key strengths of The Study is to recognise and nurture individual talent and hard work. The success of this individual approach to education can be seen by the many scholarship offers given to The Study girls by the leading senior schools. Over the last five academic years, The Study’s Year 6 groups have received 135 scholarship offers at 11+; an impressive number for any preparatory school. 2016 and 2017 were particularly strong years with 25 and 35 scholarships offered respectively. 2018 has been another record breaking year for the school, with more offers of senior school places than ever before as well as a hugely impressive 39 scholarships offered across academic, music, sport and drama.
