Subiaco Academy is a Catholic College Preparatory Boarding and Day school in the Benedictine tradition, for young men in grades 7- 12. We see Christ in each student, guiding him in his response to God, aiding the development of his known and hidden gifts, and fostering a search for truth and an appreciation of the arts
The primary objective of Subiaco Academy is to foster a system of education, guidance, spirituality, and community fellowship that develops both the mind and body. To that end, all of the academic classes, religious activities, and extracurricular programs are designed to enhance a close fraternal and cooperative relationship built on mutual respect and Christian love. Teachers and staff should endeavor to communicate by their words and actions a sense of the spirit of St. Benedict, as expressed in his Rule: a respect for the value of work, development of personal talents to serve others, a sense of peace and fraternity, self-discipline, trust, and an appreciation of the Christ centered nature of monastic communities. Subiaco Academy admits male students of any race, color, creed, or national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the Academy. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, or national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, athletic policies, scholarship and student aid programs, and other school administered programs.
We as the faculty of Subiaco Academy—whether administration, coaches, deans, teachers, or any combination thereof—have the highest obligation to uphold the mission of the school: to see Christ in each student, guide him in his response to God, aide in the development of his known and hidden gifts, and foster a search for truth and an appreciation of the arts. We strive to accomplish this mission by following the words of Christ in his commandments: “’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself’” (Mark 12:30-31).
Subiaco Academy is very fortunate to have a support services team in place whose goal is “success” for every student. This is a big task, but Subiaco’s team is up to the challenge because each student is a top priority at Subiaco. The team increases teacher awareness of distinctive learning characteristics of individual students and coordinates interventions in reading comprehension, study/organizational skills and time management. The team serves as mentors for learning, teaching, and thinking strategies, and academic skills acquisition.
Our top priority for the residential life program is the safety and welfare of each student. Residential deans on duty live in the dean's quarters in the dormitories. These residential deans are charged with daily supervision, discipline, and providing for the basic needs of our boarding students. They act as the “houseparent” of our students who reside on campus and serve as role models and mentors, not just disciplinarians.
Subiaco Academy strives to enhance the experiences of boarding students in numerous ways. The learning environment is enhanced with nightly study halls as well as Sunday morning study periods before Mass. Weekends at Subiaco are a time to relax, study, hang out with friends, or participate in a planned activity. Transportation is provided to local malls and discount stores, and to recreational activities such as lake trips and movie theatres. Students are encouraged to participate in camping excursions, hiking trips, kayaking, and canoeing when offered on the weekends.
