A tenure track position in micro and nanoelectronic biosensor devices for biomedical applications for a five-year period (3+2 years). Based on experience and competence, the successful applicant will be placed at the Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Full Professor level of the four-level tenure track system of the University of Oulu. The position will be located within one or several of the following faculties at the University of Oulu: 1) Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, 2) Faculty of Medicine, or 3) Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine.
In line with the strategic objectives of UO, it is anticipated that the candidate focuses on innovative micro and nanoelectronic biosensor devices for biomedical applications aiming at point-of-care diagnostics, disease-, sports- and wellness biomonitoring. Research in multidisciplinary group includes the development of novel biosensor concepts and their validation in relevant environment. Research addressing biochemistry and bioinformatics is performed at the Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine and Faculty of Medicine, while the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering provides resources to accomplish research on hardware, device control and data communication of sensors.
Accordingly, we are seeking for an enthusiastic scientist having background in micro/nanofabrication as well as in surface/biochemistry that in turn enable novel biomedical biosensor devices for identifying and quantifying biomolecules and markers by the means of e.g. chemical, electrochemical and/or optical detection.
The candidate shall be a dynamic individual who provides vision, leadership and guidance in the multidisciplinary field of biomedical sensing, research and translational medicine. The qualified candidate will work closely with multiple departments to assemble interdisciplinary teams with the aim at developing and investigating new sensor technologies. The candidate should be active in national and international networks and capable of building international research projects and lead them. The projects should provide significant impact on both academia and industry.
Qualifications of a successful candidate include a doctoral degree in a relevant field such as biophysics, biochemistry, molecular biology, biomedical engineering, medicine, electrical engineering, materials science or nanotechnology. We anticipate high quality scientific competence, experience in fundraising and project management, ability to teach classes and supervise doctoral theses, as well as evidence of international collaboration in his/her field of research.
