Toronto International College (TIC), established in 2003, aims to meet the needs and demands of students from Canada and across the globe. We cater to students who require individual attention and/or students wishing to pursue intense preparation for admission into prestigious Canadian universities and colleges. TIC is a unique preparatory school for students who wish to complete their secondary school education, improve their English language skills, and/or be prepared academically, culturally, and linguistically for university or college. We offer an Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum in an intensive, structured learning environment; especially for international students. Our students are primed to apply for and successfully transition into post secondary institutions in Canada.

Welcome to your new extended family at TIC! Not only are we a member of the Ontario Federation of Independent Schools and Languages Canada, but we recently became a member of the College Board in order to offer IELTS testing and Advanced Placement (AP) testing and credits. Our experienced team of professionals uses technology, differentiated instruction, and inquiry-based learning to accommodate different learning styles.

Our students are able to complete academic programs pertaining to Secondary School (Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12) in our student-centered and innovatively-designed learning environment. Within these academic programs, TIC focuses on supporting and meeting the individual needs of each student. Students who complete our Grade 12 program and meet all necessary requirements including English proficiency, receive an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

Our comprehensive ESL program is designed for international students to build their English language skills quickly, as well as to prepare them for academic excellence. Successful completion of our ESL program meets the English requirements for admission to our partner public colleges. Student academic evaluation is based on a combination of continuous assessment of course work, such as essays, projects, tests, and assignments, which comprise 70% of the overall course grade. A final exam at the end of each module accounts for 30% of the overall course grade.

The Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum is ranked 4th overall globally. The Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) requires the completion of 30 course credits, the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) or the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OSSLC), and 40 hours of community service.

Welcome to your new extended family at Toronto International College! Not only are we a member of Languages Canada, the Ontario Federation of Independent Schools and recently the College Board to offer (IELTS) testing and Advanced Placement (AP) testing and credits. We also pride ourselves upon being a private high school inspected by the Ontario Ministry of Education. Our experienced team of professionals use technology, Differentiated Instruction and Inquiry-Based, Learning to accommodate different learning styles.

Through professionally developed programs and on-going guidance, supported with skills development and outside-the-classroom experiences, students will be able to achieve success. Toronto International College is a school that not only encourages students to set high goals but also provides the tools, training, and support for them to reach their goals and realize their potential. We promote the importance of understanding and mastering life skills such as: time and project management, problem solving, interpersonal abilities and motivation. These, when combined and reinforced with learning skills that include study and exam skills, presentations, oral tests and essay writing, create a basis for every TIC student to succeed and achieve their full potential.

TIC provides small class sizes, excellent facilities and an active, 21st century, learning environment to serve the educational needs of international students from all over the world. Our dedicated faculty and staff are devoted to serving your needs and we look forward to helping you achieve your educational goals.

In accordance with the Curricular Guidelines of the Ontario Ministry of Education, students must earn a total of 30 credits (one for every 110-hour course successfully completed) to obtain an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Eighteen of the credits are compulsory, earned in a specified number of courses from a list of subjects that every student must take at TIC. The remaining 12 credits are optional, earned in courses that the student may select from the full range of courses offered by TIC.

In addition to the 18 compulsory credits, students have to earn 12 optional credits in courses of their choice, selected from a full list of courses available at TIC. Optional credits allow students to build an educational program that suits their individual interests and meets university, college, apprenticeship, or work requirements. All students must also complete 40 hours of community involvement activities at some point in their high school years in order to qualify for graduation. Furthermore, students must pass the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test prior to admission into Grade 11 and Grade 12, or prior to graduation in the case of international students.

As an inspected private school accredited by the Ontario Ministry of Education, TIC strictly follows the curricular guidelines and policies of the Ontario Ministry of Education in all its course offerings and teaching practice. In light of the demands and needs of its clientele, TIC currently offers O.S.S.D (Ontario Secondary School Diploma) Grade 10, Grade 11 and Grade 12 University Preparation courses and ESL (English as a Second Language) as well as EAP (English for Academic Purposes) courses which are intended to prepare students for university studies.

Every student at TIC including all international students who have not yet graduated from a secondary school must complete a minimum of 40 hours of community involvement activities as one of the requirements of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
The purposes of the community involvement activities are to:

  • To encourage students to develop awareness and understanding of civic responsibility.
  • To increase awareness of the role they can play and gain satisfaction from the contribution they can make in supporting and strengthening their communities.
  • To develop a positive image and a greater sense of identity within the community

Students may complete the requirement at any time before graduation. Students may complete one activity of 40 hours or several activities which add up to a 40 hour time commitment. The requirement must be completed outside of scheduled class time.
Students will identify and document their community involvement on the Community Involvement Activities Form. Students must provide signatures confirming what activities they are participating in, who their supervisors are and verification of completed activities. When completed (with all signatures) the student will present the report to the school. The total number of hours completed each year will be documented on the report card.

Signed Memorandum of Agreement regarding ESL Pathway for the continuous purpose of facilitating the admission of qualified students from TIC to an academic study program at Centennial College. The Memorandum was signed on August 11, 2013. Centennial College will recognize English Language Training Program at TIC and grant admission to certificate, diploma, advanced diploma and degree programs to TIC graduates. TIC strives towards opening excellent educational opportunities to its current and prospective students.
