Trinity Grammar School, Kew has an esteemed history of educating boys that extends over 115 years. Its traditions are therefore strong, and its motto of Viriliter Agite – Act Manfully – remains the School’s guiding principle. A modern view of manfulness, however, requires much more than its traditionally ascribed characteristics of courage and stoicism.
Accordingly, Trinity prides itself on preparing boys for a self-satisfying and happy life, a life of resilience, respectfulness and fulfilling relationships; of compassion to others and contribution to the broader society and communities in which they live. In my regular contact with Trinity boys, both current and past, We are constantly inspired by their leadership, determination and drive. We are sure you will be impressed by them too.
Blessed with an outstanding staff and world-class facilities, the Trinity offering extensively covers the curricular, cocurricular, pastoral and spiritual domains. These can be appraised on other pages of this website and clearly demonstrate that the School is focussed on a holistic education for the boys in its care. Open and honest communication is welcome at Trinity, and we genuinely encourage personal contact. Opportunities to visit the School are plentiful and we look forward to you joining us to observe our staff and students in action.
Our Vision The holistic development of each student – spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, physically, socially, and morally, within a school recognised for excellence. Our Mission To grow exceptional young men empowered to contribute to the global community with courage, humility and integrity. Our Values are
The Early Learning Centre (ELC) provides a positive and enthusiastic introduction to education for boys and girls between the ages of three and five years. The program operates five days a week and offers a full day program. Children can attend for five days, three days (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) or two days (Tuesday and Thursday).
The ELC offers a safe, creative and challenging environment which encourages children to explore this secure setting in their own time and at their own pace. Preference is given to families in order of enrolment. Children commencing in the Three Year Old Group must have had their third birthday by 31 January in the year of entry and children entering the Four Year Old Group must have had their fourth birthday by 31 January in the year of entry. We encourage parents to discuss their child’s particular requirements with teaching staff before commencement.
Before and After Care Programs complement the ELC Program to maintain a balanced day for the children and to accommodate the needs of working parents. The children become an integral part of the school and this is enhanced by their participation in specialist classes such as Music, Library and Physical Education, and a Buddy Program with the Year 3 boys.
The curriculum for Years 7 and 8 at Trinity is designed as a two-year sequence. During these first and very important years of secondary education, students are introduced to the full range of learning opportunities on offer at the School, whilst also developing the personal, social and organisational skills which will hold them in good stead for the remainder of their education.
Core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science and LOTE run almost every day, giving students maximum opportunity to benefit from regular face-to-face teaching in these key areas. Humanities and Arts subjects also run on most days; however, students change between subjects on a more regular basis. Overall, the program sees students studying only eight subjects per term, giving them unrivalled opportunities to develop positive relationships with all of their teachers.
One of Trinity’s great strengths has always been the supportive learning relationships which develop between students and teachers. Our dedicated staff pride themselves on knowing each boy as an individual, and understanding his skills, passions, strengths and weaknesses. Seeing students more often makes it possible for these strong relationships to form and grow.
The Year 9 curriculum focuses on the increasing globalisation and interconnectedness of the world into which students will move post-school. This takes place through the lens of a study of Chinese culture, which sees all boys participate in a three-week immersion experience in China.
The core curriculum is expanded through the introduction of a suite of semester-length subjects, the aim of which is to help each boy develop a clearer sense of his interests, passions and enthusiasms. The subject choices made in Year 9 do not commit students to a particular program in the final three years of schooling, and as such, this year should be seen as a further opportunity for boys to explore disciplines and subject areas. The core English program in Year 9 follows the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum. Where appropriate, relevant language subjects will also be aligned with this course.
The life of a Year 10 student at Trinity is busy, engaging, focussed and fun. It is during this year that boys are encouraged to choose the subjects that they will attempt in the first year of their VCE program. This is the time when they must start to think about possible university courses and career pathways. To assist them in this process, all students undertake a work experience placement. In addition, a guided testing program is used to help them uncover their aptitudes, interests, passions and areas for development, all of which assists them in making informed choices.
The academic rigour of the Year 10 program increases significantly throughout the year, in order to prepare each student for the challenges and opportunities presented by their final two years of secondary school. In addition to the core academic program, students are given access to a significant number of elective options, each of which is designed to broaden their skills and challenge their perceptions of the world. Trinity students learn to question the assumptions that underpin global interactions and the extent to which they themselves can be a positive influence locally, nationally and globally. By the end of the Year 10 program, Trinity students are academically and socially prepared for the years ahead.
