UCL Qatar is located at Doha’s Education City, and currently occupies the second floor of the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar. Students at UCL Qatar benefit from truly exceptional facilities.Education City is home to Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) as well as a number of the world’s leading overseas universities: Georgetown University, Carnegie Mellon University, Northwestern University, Weill Cornell Medical College, HEC Paris, Texas A&M University and Virginia Commonwealth University.Students from each of the universities at Education City come together and interact in many ways. At UCL Qatar, research of the highest level is one of our key objectives. We aim to contribute to and strengthen Qatar’s research capacity, in keeping with Qatar Vision 2030.To this end, we have developed and implemented research projects across the Arab and Islamic World, with the assistance of external funding sources such as the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), and through collaborations with regional and international partners. Our leading projects are based in Qatar, Sudan and Egypt.Our research and subsequent findings informs our teaching and provides opportunities for our students to gain practical exposure within archaeology and cultural heritage, through site excavations, lab analysis and library resources.
UCL Qatar's student financial support is tailored to meet the needs of our potential students. This may include scholarships, awards and bursaries.UCL Qatar offers short courses aimed at professionals working in the field of cultural heritage, who are looking to expand their knowledge, learn about new developments in their field, or understand other disciplines in their chosen field.Lecturers for the courses come from a wide range of international institutions around the world, including UCL.
The MA in Museum and Gallery Practice is an immersive, hands-on programme providing students with the knowledge and professional skills required to become a future cultural leader locally in Qatar and internationally. The programme is unique in its focus on Qatar and the Arab world as well as more broadly on museums in non-western contexts. Key areas of museum theory and practice are taught, providing students with knowledge, understanding and skills in areas such as exhibition development, museum management as well as education and community engagement. The programme is designed to develop both critical thinking skills and core professional skills such as documentation and interpretation.
Students share knowledge and creative approaches with peers from diverse geographical, educational and professional backgrounds. Students enter this programme with a wide range of undergraduate qualifications, including: Art, Architecture, Archaeology, History, Photography, Social Science and Humanities.Students also have the option to undertake a placement at a museum, gallery or cultural heritage organisation in Qatar, the region or internationally.This opportunity enables students to practically apply their academic knowledge, learn new methods and gain valuable work experience.Students have the opportunity to choose optional modules in specific areas of museum studies where they wish to specialise. The optional modules are taught by UCL Qatar academic staff with contributions from local, regional and international specialists.
