The Ulm University of Applied Sciences is a university of applied sciences with study courses mainly directed at the technical sector. The study courses have a broad approach to open up a wide range of professional possibilities for graduates. Individual qualification is possible by selecting the optional mandatory courses, the topic of the study papers and thesis, foreign languages, studying abroad at foreign partner universities as well as the acquisition of additional skills.

The success of Ulm University of Applied Science is based on the cooperation with industry. It integrates the areas of research and development with the help of own research institutes and several Steinbeis Transfer Centers of the Steinbeis Foundation for Economic Development Stuttgart (Stiftung für Wirtschaftsförderung Stuttgart). The students also benefit from this because of attractive places for internships and interesting thesis topics. A refined continuing education program for working people and others round off the range of Hochschule Ulm.

Why should I study at the Ulm University of Applied Sciences?" There really are good reasons for doing your degree at our University of Applied Sciences. With more than 55 years experience in educating engineers, the Ulm University of Applied Sciences offers excellent supervision and knows what qualities employers are looking for. A good qualification in one of the Bachelor's or Master's degree programmes on offer will open up numerous exciting career opportunities for you.

There are diverse options for an individualised qualification: you can choose from compulsory module options, coursework, theses and languages, as well as getting key qualifications – for example in business administration or project management. Relatively small semester sizes, learning in small study groups and direct contact with the professors permit a pleasant and effective learning atmosphere. The aim of the University of Applied Sciences is to qualify students for the workplace at a high-level, thus ensuring their employability in the long-term. We have a tradition of close cooperation with regional businesses enabling attractive internships and, usually, a smooth start to students' careers. All faculties also offer dual study programmes, some with an integrated apprenticeship following the Ulm Model.

The Ulm University of Applied Sciences is also in a very good position internationally. It has partnerships with more than 60 universities in almost 40 countries. Not only can you spend a semester at one of our partner universities, but you can also do your thesis or a practical semester abroad. In several degree courses it is possible to receive an international degree qualification.

With the Higher Education Act of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg, which came into force in 2005, the legislator transferred more decision-making autonomy and responsibility to the universities. It particularly strengthens the position of the rectorate. It is supported by the University Council as a controlling body, which is similar to a supervisory board as far as its function is concerned. At the same time, the Act increases the self-responsibility of the faculties.

The bodies of self-administration of the Hochschule Ulm encompass the University Council, the Senate, the Faculty Council, the student representation group as well as the Staff Council.

The increasing scarcity of resources worldwide calls for a fundamental change in the relationship between the economy, ecology and society.

As a university for engineering, information technology and media, we prepare our students for this change and equip them with vital tools for a secure and sustainable future.

We impart technical expertise conscious of our social responsibility and with the aim of conserving natural resources, furthering the use of renewable resources, developing innovative technologies and using them in a socially acceptable way.

The Ulm University of Applied Science is embedded in the regional economy.

In the light of technical, economic and societal developments we adjust the contents of our degree courses continually. At the same time we ensure the competitiveness of our students on the international labour market and promote their intercultural competence and knowledge of foreign languages.

We ensure the practical orientation of research and teaching through intensive contact with our partners in industry and other sectors of the economy. We develop new courses in conjunction with these partners.

Advanced and up-to-date teaching depends on lecturers engaging in applied research, development and project work. We expressly support such activities and thus facilitate the active participation of students and companies in our research and its results.

Our culture of learning and working promotes the dialogue between students and lectures. Personal suitablility, professional engagement as well as experience of research and development guarantee the adademic competence of our staff.

Personal responsibility and entrepreneurial spirit strengthen both the developmental perspectives of the individual as well as those of the university.

As a university we develop our own concepts for entrepreneurial initiatives. Through training and consultancy we foster the founding of spin-off companies by our students.

Through joint activity and experience in our community, we create a university culture that is open to all ages and nationalities.

Inherent to this culture are the convictions that lifelong learning is vital for professional success and a readiness to engage in international exchange invaluable. Our university culture is constantly influenced by the contact we maintain with our graduates on a personal, social and technical level. This strengthens the link with the community for which the university is an important focus.

For members of the Ulm University of Applied Sciences, the mission statement is to serve both as a yardstick and as a decision-making aid for their individual plans and activities.

To guarantee its reliability, the mission statement will be reviewed in open discourse every three years with regard to topical importance and feasibility. We are thus creating a basis of confidence for all who wish to influence life in our university today and in future.
