The Dutch education system features two types of institution of higher education: research universities and universities of applied sciences. UAS Leiden is a university of applied sciences.
We offer Bachelor's and Master's programmes, minors and (post-graduate) courses and we perform applied research in a variety of domains ranging from healthcare and social work to economics, and from technology to education. Our education is focused on competencies, offers freedom of choice and challenges students to realise their potential. We encourage and support students in developing their knowledge and skills so that they are well prepared for their future careers.
UAS Leiden offers Bachelor's programmes, Master's programmes, English Minors, (post-graduate) courses, associate degree programmes and other types of education in five faculties:
UAS Leiden has associate professors (lectoren in Dutch). These associated professors occupy chairs, and are at the centre of a network referred to as a kenniskring (or 'knowledge circle'). Our associate professors conduct applied research in a specific area of expertise and maintain contacts with the relevant branch of business or industry. The areas of expertise of our 12 associate professors are Anthroposophical Healthcare, Mental Healthcare, Inclusive Education, Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship, Innovative Molecular Diagnostics, Youth Care and Youth Policy, People with Chronic Illnesses, Talent Management and Future Research in ICT, Nature and Development Child, Professionalism and Productivity, and PR & Social Media.
UAS Leiden has been awarded an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education the total duration of the programme and is thus qualified to participate in Erasmus+ from 2014 - 2020. As a participant in the Erasmus+ programme, UAS Leiden currently cooperates with a large number of institutions for higher education throughout Europe. Students from foreign education institutions with which we have an exchange agreement are welcome to come to UAS Leiden to participate in our English-taught minors.
At UAS Leiden we have been carrying out international projects since 1994, focusing mainly on development cooperation. These projects aim to build capacity in education institutions in developing countries, through training-of-trainers (ToT) programmes. With education being our core business and major part of all of our activities, we have built up knowledge and wide experience in the fields of Health Care and Peace, Justice and Security.
Through various programmes, funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we cooperate with partners from developing countries by providing training and education. This way we contribute in strengthening their capacity to train students in order to establish a growing qualified workforce.
Every year, international exchange students come to the University of Applied Sciences Leiden to take part in our English-taught minors. If you are an exchange student from a foreign education institution with which we have an Erasmus or other exchange agreement, you are welcome to come to University of Applied Sciences Leiden to take one of our English-taught minors.
