The University of Hradec Králové is a vibrant institution, and its constant development is reflected both in academic and construction activities: new faculties and institutes are being established, new study programmes are being accredited, and, last but not least, the construction of the University campus is in unremitting progress. The University campus “Na Soutoku”, “At the Confluence”, is situated conveniently in the town centre within walking distance of the other university buildings, the Educational and Scientific Library, and the old town with many cosy restaurants and bars. In addition to classrooms and lecture halls equipped with latest technology, the campus includes the University Library and Gaudeamus Publishing House, a textbook shop, and an art gallery. The campus visitors will meet enthusiastic young people, Czech and international students as well as members of the academic staff.
At present the Alma Mater of almost 9,000 students, the University of Hradec Králové provides high-quality tertiary education within a large scope of study fields that comprise Social Sciences, Humanities, Educational Studies, Natural Sciences and Information Technology Studies. The applicants can choose from dozens of study programmes that cover almost one hundred study disciplines.

Incoming students from all our partner universities are invited to register for courses with instruction in the English language. Whether the student participates within the Erasmus+ program, or any other exchange program, he/she may opt for a vast selection of courses. University of Hradec Králové develops scientific disciplines within the research and teaching activities of individual faculties.Research at all faculties of the University of Hradec Králové is implemented and funded under a contract of cooperation within a framework of selected research grants from various providers such as the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic (GAČR); the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TAČR); the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (COST CZ programme); through the cooperation of the Czech Republic and the United States of America (programme KONTAKT II); etc. The research is carried out, where possible, hand to hand with other research institutes and companies within the region, but also with other national and international organizations drawing from an extensive portfolio of international contacts. Naturally, the involvement of master’s students – and especially doctoral students undertaking research (currently preparing 166 Ph.D. candidates) and participation of domestic and foreign experts of teaching and research is important. In addition, around three quarters of employees at the University of Hradec Králové are directly involved in important research activities.
The University of Hradec Králové realizes the importance of international contacts, and the development and maintenance of connections with foreign academic institutions is one of the University’s priorities. Contracts signed with many foreign universities permit the mobility and cooperation of students and academic staff. The University is involved in numerous international programmes that focus on education as well as research and development; it participates in CEEPUS or programmes funded by the European Union, such as the Erasmus+ Programme. Apart from the countries of the European Union, students are also invited to spend a segment of their studies in Norway, Switzerland, Turkey, Thai-wan, and in the countries of Latin America and Africa.
Moreover, Hradec Králové itself is an international meeting point. Foreign students coming from all over the world create an inspiring multicultural atmosphere. Czech students and their colleagues from both near and distant foreign countries meet at lectures and seminars and in their free time, and thus benefit from the countless advantages of intercultural encounters: international contacts broaden the students’ horizons, they facilitate perception and understanding of both similarities and differences between cultures, and they offer a unique opportunity of foreign language skills improvement.
