USW's spirit of foundation is derived from the founding ideology of Dangun (the founding father of Korea) called 'Hongik’(devotion to the welfare of mankind). USW also succeeds to the Confucian philosophy of Donggo Yi Jun-gyeong who was one of the representative clean-handed ministers in the Joseon Dynasty, and its spirit of foundation is summarized as thrift, justice and originality which are explained below.

In accordance with such a spirit, it aims at fostering talents of integrity and self-discipline who will positively contribute to the development of the state and the realization of just society.

The 21st century is the age of internationalization and information-oriented society. In the age of Internationalization competitions and cooperations of states are made randomly regardless of border lines. In the age of information-oriented society knowledge, technology, and culture take the initiative of development.In the 21st century USW will grow to be a university with international competitiveness by positively meeting rapidly changing international situations, and by fostering talents who will satisfy various social demands.

In order to cope with new environments and enhance the efficiency of education and research, USW will reorganize the administrative structure, computerize school affairs, support research activities, strengthen the evaluation of professors' achievements, and consolidate relationships with other universities domestic and abroad.

USW provides students with welfare facilities and natural landscape on the campus for the re-creation of students. It also provides them with administrative structure that makes them to have a variety of choices and satisfies their needs.

In order to succeed to the traditional culture of historic Suweon and Hwaseong area, USW helps to develop Oriental medicine, excavate historical relics, discover traditional national music and arts, and research and preserve traditional thought and ethics.

USW contributes to the community with its academic research and technology, and with its cultural and athletic activities. In order to help to develop community industry and culture it runs various institutions and centers such as Institute of Up-to-date Science and Technology, Center for the Inauguration of Enterprise, Center for the Support of Techno-park, Center for the Research on Clean Environment, Consortium Center for linking industry and Academia, Institute of Social Education, Graduate Schools for Employees, and Institute for Teacher-Training. USW also gives educational support to elementary and middle schools and helps to develop the cultural activities of the community.

In compliance with the prospect of the development of universities and learning in the 21st century USW will readjust its administrative organization and structure, and matriculation system. It will also found Colleges of Medicine and the Oriental Medicine to render medical services to the community.

On the campus of natural scenery USW will construct high-tech general hospital, Oriental medicine hospital, faculty lounge, and design complex. It will also secure off-campus space.

In order to meet the needs of students and community, USW will maximize educational productivity through overall readjustment of educational system, strengthen the liberal arts course, develop programs for the early graduation and for merging undergraduate and graduate courses. It will also readjust matriculation systems extensively to select superior studentsy.

In order to enhance information-oriented education and research, which is regarded as essential requirement in the 21st century, USW founded College of Information Engineering in 2002 and Department of Information and Media in 2002. It also established consortium of related fields such as computer, information, arts, industrial engineering, newspaper and broadcasting, electronics and electric engineering. The College of Information Engineering was awarded as the best IT college by the Ministry of Information and Communication in 2002.

The University of Suwon is the best place to achieve your life dream. You can study hard at U of S, and go anywhere in the world to become a global leader. I learned so much from all of my outstanding professors when I studied at the University of Suwon. Also, the University of Suwon gave me a full scholarship to study in USA. Good luck!

The best school to enjoy during 4 years The most expensive engineering school in Korea Not the worst but not so good school after graduation, damn...! Ridiculously expensive, Decent professors, Awesome buildings, huge land, art center, Fancy cafeterias, good food, pubs, restaurants around......
