West Nottingham Academy is a diverse, student-centered, boarding and day school for young men and women in 9th through 12th grades, and post-graduate. Since its founding in 1744, the Academy has prepared students for the challenges of college and life through a curriculum grounded in the liberal arts and sciences, and a commitment to the intellectual, spiritual, and social growth of each student. Established in 1744, West Nottingham Academy is the oldest boarding school in the United States. We are a 9-12 grade co-educational boarding and day school located in Northeastern Maryland, an hour's drive from either Philadelphia or Baltimore, 90 minutes from Washington DC and just over two hours from New York City.
Every day, in every activity, from the classroom to the playing fields, art studios, and club gatherings, students are exposed to a diverse community of learners from all walks of life. They also mingle freely in social situations, learning about each other’s languages, foods, music, and lifestyles.
Our environmental sustainability program with its community and global ethic and its action oriented approach to student experiences and experiential learning is cutting edge. Our Artist-in-Residence program supported by Eric Fischl, a renowned American painter, is virtually one of a kind. At WNA, we have the best of both worlds: A foundation in history and tradition that starts with the founding of the country and a progressive vision in environmental sustainability, STEM and innovation, and the arts that will propel us into the future. Our students are a globally diverse population who learn what it means to engage with our local community ways they can model all over the planet. Our beautiful campus with its rural location and our less than two hour proximity to three major cities means we have the best of metropolitan culture and peaceful nature as well.
It is our long-standing belief that these many and rich approaches--monitored and supported by a dedicated and well-qualified faculty and staff--best prepare our students for both the next phase of their educations and for full and meaningful lives. We, as a community of learners, welcome and value diversity and what it adds to a learning environment. Every individual of the West Nottingham Academy community brings an intricate combination of cultural traditions, personal and family beliefs, and life experiences. As a historically inclusive Academy, West Nottingham respects and supports the ethical and educational importance of a multicultural curriculum and co-curricular program in accordance with its mission statement and core values.

The quality of education at West Nottingham Academy is outstanding. The teachers are dedicated and supportive, ensuring that every student receives personalized attention. My child has made tremendous progress since joining this boarding school, and I couldn't be happier with the results. Maryland is fortunate to have such a prestigious institution that offers an American curriculum.
