XLRI was founded in 1949 by a few visionary Jesuit Fathers to bring a change in the society. The institute always strives to be a management school with a difference. Our MDP programmes have helped thousands of junior, middle and senior executives across the length and breadth of the country to update their knowledge and their skills.

Our outreach programmes Executive-PGP, Satellite-based Programmes, General Management Programmes and overseas have helped many working people to upgrade their knowledge to climb the career ladder.

The institute has a sprawling campus located in Jamshedpur with the scenic setting of the Dalma Hills in the North and the Tata Iron & Steel Company in the South.

Information Technology is unarguably the defining force of this millennium, and XLRI is poised to break new ground as the most e-enabled Business School in India. The initial focus of being system friendly has now resulted in a virtual flood of e-initiatives. Beginning with the up gradation of infrastructure like marching towards Wi-Fi campus, supplemented by the introduction of new courses, workshops, seminars, live projects and setting up a Centre for e-Business that aims to facilitate industry-academia interface. Thus enabling the creation of whole new batch of tech-savy managers with the skills to integrate technology solutions to the workplace environment has begun.

The campus has two state-of-the-art auditoriums, both fully air-conditioned. The Small Auditorium, as the first one is called the oldest of the two, with a seating capacity for about 150 people. This auditorium plays host to internal student events, guest lectures and seminars, and the famed XLRI Student General Body Meetings.
