At Ysgol Dinas Brân we aim to ensure that all our children succeed in a happy, caring and secure environment. We are extremely proud of our school which achieves high standards through high expectations, excellent teaching and great support for the children. In our Estyn report we were described as having a “very high level of care and support for pupils”.

In recent years, our exam results have ranked us amongst the highest achieving schools across Wales; in 2018 our GCSE results were excellent. We are constantly striving to further improve to ensure that all our students are leaving Ysgol Dinas Brân with the qualifications and skills to ensure success in their future pathways.

We are a popular bilingual school with approximately 1050 students including a thriving sixth form of 150 students. In 2018, our A -Level results were excellent and placed us in the top 25% of A-Level providers, with all students gaining their places at University or higher apprenticeships.

Our successes are founded on a bedrock of strong pastoral care. We support all students as individuals, be they more gifted and talented or students with specific learning needs. All are supported by a form tutor, who works closely with the Learning Manager and an Assistant Learning Manager to provide the best possible care for each child. Our philosophy is simple; we expect each student to work hard, behave well and show politeness and courtesy to others.

Our motto is “Success Through Effort” and we aim for all students to achieve their very best both academically and in extra-curricular life. There are many opportunities to excel, whether through sporting, musical, dramatic pursuits or taking on extra responsibilities such as student council rep or peer mentor.

These are just some of the features that make Ysgol Dinas Brân so distinctive. We offer a wide range of courses at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 creating a rich and diverse curriculum. Through our Welsh medium dimension, around 100 students study their subjects through Welsh. We are proud of our bilingual status, where students and parents can choose a preferred medium for education. We relish the strong international links we have established over a number of years with schools abroad and the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.
