Ysgol y Gorlan nestles neatly under Tremadog's rocks on the edge of the village of Tremadog. The Alltwen Hospital is a close neighbour, Moel y Gest in its glory to the front and there is plenty of open farmland surrounding the school.

The school serves the areas of Tremadog, Prenteg, Penmorfa, Golan, Treflys and Cwmystradllyn. There are also pupils who travel from outside the school's natural catchment area. The school serves a broad community which has social and liguistic diversity. We strive at all times to ensure that every pupil feels part of the school family.

Ysgol y Gorlan has an enthusiastic team that works hard to raise standards and continually improve the school. We are proud of the school's attainment and the wide range of extra-curricular activities are important to us, with pupils succeeding in various fields from the Urdd Eisteddfod to sport.

There is a safe, happy and Welsh atmosphere within the school. Our aim is to develop the whole child to reach his or her potential and become independent learners and valued members of our community.

Technological developments make it much easier to use printed and internet pictures and images. Consequently, we have a responsibility to ensure that vulnerable children and individuals are not exploited. This policy is published so as to try and ensure that neither the Council nor individual employees put themselves in a situation where they could be prosecuted for misusing photographs and avoid situations where children’s safety is jeopardized. They discriminate between taking “private” photographs namely photographs taken by parents, close family, schools for their own purpose and “public” photographs, e.g. photographs that would be published in the press, publications, public exhibitions. The term “photographs” is used for photography (film and digital), video and mobile phone cameras.

It is up to the schools/centres/homes/clubs/services themselves to establish arrangements for this kind of photographs, deciding what is practical and appropriate for local circumstances and guidelines to develop for specific services will specify operational arrangements.
