GEMS Wellington Academy (WSO), is a distinctive and special place where children are safe, happy and well supported. We encourage the various talents of our students in order to ensure that they all develop a confidence and independence that is recognised by everyone who meets them.
Providing a progression from the Early Years Foundation Stage through an enriched and developed National Curriculum for England into personalised qualification pathways, incorporating IGCSE & IB, WSO looks to cultivate a spirit of cooperation, tolerance and mutual respect whilst encouraging individual students to feel that their unique contribution is valued.
Offering world-class facilities WSO places special emphasis on pioneering teaching and learning and the integration of technology into the curriculum, in keeping with the educational rationale of the Academy and the vision of the Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority.
As children mature, we are able to scrutinize their academic progress and build a precise picture of each child’s potential; this allows us to reward a child’s hard work over a period of time and brings Early Years Foundation and more senior curricula much closer together, acknowledging that WSO is very much one Academy.
At WSO, learning is not confined to the classroom but it is accessible all day and in a range of learning spaces. We offer a fully inclusive curriculum, including an Enrichment programme which encourages development in sports, performing arts, outdoor education and service. We also have a pastoral system of four houses which offers a healthy sense of competition and leadership opportunities as well as a sense of belonging for all students, making the Academy environment feel much smaller and safer.
Our most valued partnership is with our parents and students. Our elected Parent Council acts as a springboard for parents’ ideas, initiatives, and concerns within the community, contributing to the functioning of the Academy and planning Parent Engagement events. We encourage students to take an active interest in their learning environment where they elect Student Ambassadors and link the school community with the interests of the student body.
Summary of KHDA Inspection
GEMS Wellington Academy (Branch) was inspected by DSIB from 14 to 17 November 2016. The overall quality of education provided by the school is very good. The section below summarises the inspection findings for each of the six performance indicators described in the framework.
In the Foundation Stage, attainment and progress are outstanding in English, mathematics and science. In primary and secondary, attainment is very good in all three subjects, and progress is generally very good and outstanding. In post-16, attainment and progress are variable across subjects. Attainment in Islamic education and Arabic is mostly acceptable with good progress in places. Students’ learning skills are outstanding in FS and Post-16, and very good in primary and secondary.
Students’ personal and social development is exceptional. Most students display excellent attitudes to work and they behave well around the school. In all phases, students’ understanding of Islamic values and cultural diversity is outstanding for their age, as is their sense of social responsibility and environmental awareness.
Teaching in FS is outstanding. Engaging activities ensure that children make a strong start to their education. Elsewhere, teaching is very good, although quality is not as consistent. Most teaching takes account of students’ needs and offers appropriate challenge. In Islamic education and Arabic, teaching is more varied and sometimes progress is reduced. Across phases, assessment information is used well to track students’ development.
The curriculum is rich and varied, and designed to develop a range of learning skills as well as knowledge and understanding. The school successfully modifies the curriculum to meet the needs of all groups, including those with SEND.
Students are very well cared for, and supported in their personal and academic development. They are safeguarded by a robust child protection policy and they respond well to the school’s promotion of healthy lifestyles.
Leaders set a clear vision and direction for the school’s work. Leadership is widely devolved, promotes high standards, and focuses on raising students’ performance. Sophisticated self-evaluation enables the leadership and the well-informed governors to identify and target the right areas for action in their improvement planning. Parents are firmly engaged with the school’s work. Management is extremely efficient, and facilities and resources are of the highest quality.
School’s strengths
Student’s personal development and social responsibility are exemplary. Children in the Foundation Stage make an outstanding start.
The school provides very strong support for students with SEND, within a very caring and inclusive school environment.
The curriculum is varied and interesting, which enables students to develop strong learning skills.
Leadership at all levels is strong, committed, and promotes innovative learning approaches.

Thank you once again for doing your part to keep Edarabia the most trusted education source.
My son has attended FS2 here for just two semesters. He went from not speaking any English to being able to read English picture books. His progress in English has far exceeded our expectations. He loves his teachers, Beth Maclennan and Revelene, and his classmates. He looks forward to going to school every day and even doesn't want to leave when it's time to go home. Unfortunately, we have to return to our home country and have to leave, but we will miss this school. Additionally, the administrative staff here are the most enthusiastic and efficient I have ever seen, especially Michelle Repsold and Michelle Ortega. Overall, I have a very positive impression of this school, and I would recommend it to my friends.

I had the pleasure of interacting with Ms. Ciara, the director of our nursery, and I am thoroughly impressed. Her dedication to her role is evident in every aspect of her work. She is not only knowledgeable but also incredibly supportive and approachable. Her leadership has made a significant positive impact on our kindergarten. I highly recommend Ms. Ciara for her excellent guidance and commitment to nurturing a positive and enriching environment for the children. She truly deserves high praise!

One of the best admissions dept I have dealt with to date - Michelle Repsold was extremely helpful. I would have chosen the school just based on my interaction with her alone! She was extremely kind and helpful, kept in contact, gave me advice and more. An absolute pleasure to deal with

We had a tour of the school during which we were shown the primary classes. The teachers seem inclusive, and the kids were at ease and looked happy. The admission team was especially helpful. We had been struggling with finding the right school that will admit our child in middle of the year. The school registrar, Ms. Repsold guided us with clear requirements on the documents and assessments. As we are new to Dubai, this was extremely important to us to decide on next steps. Communication was easy and prompt, booking appointments and managing them was also convenient. I will definitely recommend this school for a no headache process of admission !
