Dr Haroon Khan is an Associate Professor at the University of Wollongong in Dubai.

He received his PhD in 2011 from IAE, Graduate School of Management, Aix-en-Provence, & ESSEC, Paris, France, with specialisation in Strategic and Entrepreneurial Finance.

Dr Khan follows innovative pedagogical techniques to impart and share knowledge with his class and strongly believes in participative and experiential learning.

He has presented more than 20 times in international peer-reviewed conference of repute including EBN, ABEN, Business & Society, WSEAS and has been awarded several times best paper awards at top-ranked conferences around the globe including US, Europe, UK, CHINA and Australia.

Previously, Dr Khan has worked in close collaboration with national and international funding and developmental agencies, Developmental Projects. Having Managed the portfolio of Smaller to larger firms for their financing needs as well as bridge between angel investors and start-ups especially in High Tech, Energy, & healthcare.

Dr Burcu Kapar

Associate Professor

Dr Burcu Kapar is an Associate Professor at the University of Wollongong in Dubai. She obtained his PhD and MSc in Financial Economics from the City, University of London. Dr Burcu Kapar has a broad range of experience in teaching Finance and Economic courses such as Principles of Finance, Corporate Finance, Financial Derivatives, Multinational Financial Management, Financial Modelling and Empirical Analysis, Real Estate Finance and Management, Financial Analysis Tools and Techniques, Investment and Portfolio Management, Financial Strategy and Corporate Governance from Finance Discipline and Intermediate Macroeconomics, Intermediate Microeconomics from Economics discipline.

Dr Kapar follows innovative pedagogical techniques to engage and motivate the students with practical and real life examples.

Her research interest focuses on empirical finance, financial markets, cryptocurrencies and international trade. She has had several articles published in peer reviewed international journals, as well as numerous conference presentations.

Prior to joining UOWD, she worked in a university in the UAE as an Assistant and Associate Professor and worked as a Corporate Marketing Specialist in Turkiye Is Bankasi for 4 years.

Dr Faisal Rana

Associate Professor

Dr Faisal Rana is an Associate Professor at the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD). He obtained his PhD in Economics from Massey University in New Zealand.

Dr Faisal’s teaching philosophy in economics emphasises the practical application and real-world relevance of economic principles. By creating a highly engaging learning environment through case studies and real-world examples, he encourages students to analyse economic phenomena through practical lenses, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for future analysts and decision-makers.

Dr Faisal’s primary research interests lie in open-economy macroeconomics, international finance, cross-border capital flows and public sector infrastructure projects. His research work has been published in high-quality journals including Journal of Banking & Finance, Journal of International Money & Finance, Accounting & Finance, International Review of Economics & Finance, Applied Finance Letters, Contemporary Economic Policy, and Journal of Management in Engineering, among others. He is recipient of several prestigious awards, such as “Best Paper Award”, “Scientific Publications’ Award”, “Judges Choice Award & People’s Choice Award”, “Departmental Commitment Award” and “Teaching Excellence Award”.

Before assuming his current role, Dr Faisal held teaching positions at esteemed institutions in the UAE, Turkey, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. He also worked as research economist and deputy director in Pakistan’s Central Bank prior to joining academia.

Dr Kashif Saleem

Associate Professor

Dr Kashif Saleem is an Associate Professor and the Program Leader for the Master of Applied Finance program.

Dr Saleem brings with him significant international academic experience having previously been employed by LUT School of Business, Lappeenrata University of Technology, Finland as an Associate Professor in Finance and by St Petersburg State University’s Graduate School of Management as a Visiting Professor.

With 171 citations, Dr Saleem also has an impressive research profile and has had a number of articles published in peer reviewed international journals, alongside numerous conference presentations.

Dr Noor Ulain Rizvi

Assistant Professor

Dr Noor Rizvi is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD). She teaches and mentors undergraduate and postgraduate students in finance, focusing on real-world applications and critical thinking. She holds a PhD in Finance from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).

Her teaching approach emphasizes practical relevance and experiential learning. She incorporates case studies, current events, and interactive activities to help students understand financial concepts and apply them effectively. Her focus is on creating a structured and engaging learning environment that prepares students for real-world financial decision-making.

Dr Rizvi’s research interests include Basel regulations, capital adequacy requirements, non-performing assets, and impact investing.

Before joining UOWD, she was a Senior Lecturer in Finance at Curtin University Dubai, where she also served as Publication Chair for the ICISAS conference. She has also worked as an Assistant Professor of Finance and Program Director for the B.Com Professional program at Manipal Academy of Higher Education in Dubai and as an Assistant Professor of Finance and Accounting at the University of Delhi in India.

With extensive teaching and research experience, Dr Rizvi continues to contribute to finance education through academic instruction and research in financial regulation and investment strategies.

Dr Osama Al-Hares

Dr Osama Al Hares is an Associate Professor at the University of Wollongong in Dubai. He serves as Director of Postgraduate Programs. He obtained his PhD from the University of Manchester (Manchester Business School), UK.

Dr Al-Hares has a broad range of experience in teaching Financial Accounting, Reporting and Analysis; Accounting for Decision Making; Managerial and Cost Accounting; Auditing; Entrepreneurial Finance, Financial Management; Creating Business Plan; and Corporate Finance. He believes that student engagement and motivation are the keys to understanding and consequently learning. These are accomplished through using engaging activities, authentic assessments and industry-focused approach.

His research interests include Financial Performance; Corporate Valuation and Value Relevance; Emerging Financial Markets; Financial Strategy, Earnings Management, Strategic Management Accounting; Accounting Disclosure Practices; Sustainability Reporting and Environmental Finance.

He has had several articles published in peer reviewed international journals, as well as numerous conference presentations.

Dr Vikash Ramiah

Associate Professor

Head of Postgraduate Studies (HPS)

Dr Vikash Ramiah is an Associate Professor at the University of Wollongong in Dubai, and currently teaches International Financial management on undergraduate level and Portfolio Simulation and Financial Strategy on postgraduate level. Dr Ramiah obtained his PhD in Finance from RMIT University specialising in Behavioural Finance. He has supervised numerous PhD students and regularly attracts research funding.

Vikash uses a variety of teaching techniques which includes play-based pedagogy (tactile/kinaesthetic style, digital network learning and connectivism theory), andragogy (cognitive theories and constructivism), research based approach and inquiry-based learning.

He specialises in Applied Finance and his research areas are financial markets, behavioural finance, Fintech and environmental-sustainable finance.

Vikash has been teaching economics and finance courses at the University of South Australia, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, University of Melbourne, La Trobe University and Australian Catholic University since 1999. He has published in reputable academic journals and supervises numerous PhD students. Other services to the community include being a research fellow for Institute of Global Business and Society, Cologne University of Applied Sciences and Tianjin Academy of Environmental Science. He has established his leadership both domestically and internationally as he is appointed as a Professorial Research Associate at Victoria University, Adjunct Professor at Ton Duc Thang University, Adjunct Associate Professor at UniSA and Professor at Global Humanistic University.

Dr Vikash was a junior auditor at H&A Consulting, manager at Integrate PTY Limited, quantitative analyst at ANZ, Investment Banking Division, worked as a consultant for the Australian Stock Exchange and worked in collaboration with the Finance and Treasury Association of Australia and the Australian Centre for Financial Studies.
