Symbiosis International (Deemed University) is a multi-disciplinary university offering its students and faculty a vibrant learning ecosystem designed around its multi-cultural and innovative ethos. Symbiosis was established in 1971 by Prof. (Dr.) S.B. Mujumdar, for ‘Promoting International Understanding through Quality Education’, the Institution is based on the principles of Vedic thought of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ meaning ‘World as One Family’. The University’s name fittingly captures the quintessence of the relationship amongst students across the Globe. Symbiosis is committed to building international understanding by offering quality education, and is resplendent of the activities and students of more than 85 countries.

The Symbiosis journey however began with a surge of enthusiasm spurred on by an incident that, in itself, makes a poignant tale. Witnessing the plight of international, Dr. Mujumdar was deeply moved. Symbiosis was thus born out of a passion for creating ‘a home away from home’ for international students. The institution was founded to alleviate the problems faced by foreign students coming to India. At that time, these problems included - accommodation, meals, medical care, guidance, coaching, information about the city, etc. The university is a champion of research and innovation, fostering a culture of exploration and discovery. The university boasts of dedicated research centers where faculty and students collaborate on ground-breaking projects, pushing the boundaries of knowledge.
