The Mission of Bukidnon State University is To develop competitive professionals who are committed to build a sustainable life for all through quality instruction, research, extension and production. Bukidnon State University is a state university located in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, Philippines. Originally known as Bukidnon Provincial High School, Bukidnon State College started as a two-year secondary school in 1924. Upon the authority of the Director of Education, William H. Pickell, who was an American school superintendent for Bukidnon, established the school. It was first set up to train elementary school teachers for the provinces of Northern Mindanao and the neighboring regions.

It was renamed Bukidnon Normal School in 1929. During that time, it offered a four-year secondary normal curriculum, becoming one of five full-fledged secondary normal schools in the country. The student population was 70 for the entire four-year secondary course. Although the curriculum is American in orientation, the majority of the students are native inhabitants of Malaybalay.

The University shall primarily provide advanced education, higher technological, professional instruction and training in the fields of education, arts and sciences, public, administration, information technology, accountancy, law and other relevant fields of study. It shall also promote research and extension service, and provide progressive leadership in its areas of specialization.

Bukidnon State University is located in the capital town of Malaybalay City, Bukidnon and is strategically positioned to serve Region 10, the CARAGA Region and other outlaying cities and provinces of Mindanao. It is one of the leading educational institutions serving the people not only in Mindanao but also the country in general. The following series of milestones became evolutionary decades in the history of the College.

The Research and Development Unit (R&DU) is the lead research centre in the University. The unit is under the supervision of the University President. Headed by the research director, Dr. Beverly B. Bicar with the support of the research council members from the different colleges of the university.

The Research and Development Unit (R&D U) of the university envisions quality, relevant and responsive research and development programs that contribute to a productive educational institution. The R&D U’s mission is to move forward the frontiers of knowledge and promote reforms in education by nurturing a culture of research in the academe. It shall continue to implement researches in consonance with institutional, regional, national and international priorities.

Bukidnon State University is composed of six colleges and one school, namely: College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education, College of Business Administration and Information Technology, College of Community Education and Industrial Technology, College of Law, College of Nursing and Graduate School. The research thrusts and priorities of BSU are based on the research agenda of CHED, NHERA, NEDA, DOST-SEI and other agencies where research occupies the depth and breadth of their activities. The university encourages researches that are multidisciplinary and those that can benefit the neighboring communities.

Extension is one of the core functions of the University. This function makes Bukidnon State University respond effectively to social and economic needs and demands of individuals and society. The university is mandated to promote extension services and community outreach programs guided by the philosophy that the academe has a social responsibility to contribute significantly to the improvement of the quality of life of the communities it serves in the fields of Education, Arts and Sciences, Industrial and Business Information Technology.

BukSU empowers the depressed, deprived and under served communities by offering services in providing the needy the technical means and opportunities for the continuing education, livelihood programs, entrepreneurship and governance in the region not only in Bukidnon but in the whole island of Mindanao to support themselves toward a better quality of life.Bukidnon State University Extension is sincere in its mission to help improve the quality of life of the depressed, deprived and under served communities in the university’s sphere of influence using an integrative and collaborative approaches to community development.

The BukSU Library will be a primary partner in the development, provision and delivery of information resources and services.The BukSU Library provides accessible information resources through updated collections and competent staff that are essential to instruction, research, extension and production.

The term administration has been defined by the American Library Association (A.L.A.), as getting the job done. Organizing and managing are its two main divisions. This includes the functions of planning, organizing, leading and controlling of human and other resources relative to library operations. This is termed as indirect service because the activities are not visible to the eyes of the people or personally in contact with the user. The internet service is facilitated by the University Library staff with the help of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) office staff giving it possible and immediate access to information. The internet is an access point to a wide range of national and world information.
