We are a joyful, striving community of learners and teachers who want to experience something profound every day: that sweet spot between challenging academics and the personal endeavors that make our hearts soar. The Hun School of Princeton empowers each student to thrive in a diverse and ever-changing world, by nurturing resilient character, providing individual mentorship, and inspiring vigorous and joyful learning.
Open dialogue and a willingness to hear others’ views are at the heart of the vigorous, student-centered learning that takes place at The Hun School of Princeton. Civil discourse that promotes legitimate intellectual and political speech is essential to empowering students to thrive in a diverse and ever-changing world and promoting resilient character. All community members are encouraged to expect disagreement and to understand that multiple viewpoints are foundational to the creative and collaborative process. In order to ensure an equitable, diverse, and inclusive learning community, however, community members and guests are discouraged from engaging in speech that is abusive, defamatory, dehumanizing, or harassing. By encouraging students to interact with a diversity of ideas and viewpoints through civil discourse, The Hun School of Princeton fosters the crucial development of empathy, perspective-taking, and critical thought.
Our founder, Dr. John Gale Hun, built the School a century ago on the premise that learning is a highly personal process, best nurtured in close individual relationships between teacher and student. That powerful tradition is still enacted every day, in small classes, by excellent teachers who know their students well, and by students who appreciate connecting to skilled and caring adults.
The Hun School is a twenty-four hour, culturally diverse campus, in one of the most academically minded communities in the world. However, what most visitors want to know is, what does it feel like to work and live among us? Walking our campus today, you will sense a healthy camaraderie among students and adults. You will appreciate the architectural and natural beauty of our forty-five acres, tucked in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance of Princeton University. You will meet happy and respectful students – diverse boarders and day students, boys and girls from New Jersey and around the world – who make living and working here a joy. And you will experience firsthand how a school can teach traditional values through a dynamic curriculum; and balance academic excellence and exceptionally broad offerings in athletics, the arts, clubs, and service.
