At Hun, it's not just about what you learn, but how you learn it. That's why our curriculum is filled with a healthy mix of academics that stretch our minds and personal endeavors that make our hearts soar. It's what we call a balanced equation.

The Hun School of Princeton was founded by Princeton University Math Professor Dr. John Gale Hun in 1914. Dr. Hun believed that he could teach any student even the most complex ideas by getting to know them on a personal level. More than 100 years later, our teachers still take this approach. They aspire to bring out the unique gifts of each student by taking the time to know them, bond with them, and then by deftly pivoting their lessons to meet their individual characteristics.

This year, our Admission Counselors have planned a series of virtual events and programs to help you get to know our community better. We invite you to participate in virtual Q&A sessions, take a drive-through tour of campus, follow us on social media, and -- when you're ready -- schedule a virtual interview. We look forward to meeting you!

Submit Your Application

We subscribe to The Enrollment Management Association's Standard Application Online (SAO). The SAO is a widely accepted common application that many schools use. When initiating an application through SAO, we encourage families to preview the application to get a clear sense of the amount of time and information needed to complete the form. However, the form does not need to be completed in one sitting.

Application Fee: There is a non-refundable application fee of $50 for domestic applicants and $250 for international applicants.

Required Documents

Transcripts

Through the SAO, applicants should submit a transcript request to their current school. We require official transcripts for at least two full school years, in addition to up-to-date grades for the current year.

Recommendation Letters

We require three recommendation letters from your current school: one from a guidance counselor, one from a math teacher, and one from an English teacher. Applicants can submit recommendation requests to teachers through the SAO.

Character Skills Snapshot

All applicants are required to take the Character Skills Snapshot. For students who take the SSAT, there is no extra charge to complete The Snapshot. The Snapshot, which is offered on the SAO website, will offer a broader representation of student skills by highlighting character traits that are more in line with The Hun School Mission.

For International Applicants: English Proficiency Exams

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required for international applicants for whom English is not the first language. The Hun School also accepts the TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Language Tests, and scores should be emailed directly to the Admission Office.

Optional - Standardized Test Scores

Students applying for the 2021-22 academic year will not be required to submit SSAT scores. However, applicants may choose to submit standardized test scores from the following organizations:

  • Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) - Hun School Code: 4042
  • PSAT, SAT, ACT - For students in grades 11, 12, or PG.

International Applicants

The Arthur Rozas International Student Program serves a small group of students each year who require English as a Second Language (ESL) support. Students come to The Hun School from all over the word, including Central and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Africa.

While SSAT scores are not required, an English Proficiency Exam is still required for applicants for whom English is not their first language. The Hun School accepts the TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Language Tests, and scores should be emailed directly to the Admission Office.
