Xavier University, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, is currently accepting applications for an Adjunct Instructor of basic American Sign Language. This position will include the instruction of two beginning sign language courses housed within the Classics and Modern Languages Department. All applicants for this position must provide evidence of advanced proficiency in American Sign Language.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications to teach American Sign Language at Xavier University include a Bachelor’s degree in Interpreting or related field including a minimum of 4 years of interpreting employment or a Master’s Degree in the instruction of American Sign Language or related field. National Certification is highly desired. Previous American Sign Language course instruction required. Candidates should also demonstrate experience with, and knowledge of, the Deaf culture.
This position will include two, three hour credit courses to begin in the fall. These particular courses will be evening courses, two days per week. These courses will count towards a second language credit as well as Xavier’s Deaf Studies Minor. Additional courses in the spring semester and beyond will be available if applicant demonstrates success during the fall semester. Additional course offerings will be determined at the end of the fall semester. Contracts for adjunct faculty members are issued on a semester basis.
