Bond Academy is a private, co-educational, non-denominational independent school with students from Montessori Casa to Grade 12. Bond Academy provides our students with the Ontario Ministry of Education's Curriculum in small classes with high expectations, within an enriched, caring and secure environment. We focus on Academics, and a Healthy Active Living Program, that includes an intramural and aquatics program.
At Bond Academy, we pride ourselves in promoting the academic, social, physical, and character development of our students and the facilitation of interactive communication between our parents and staff. Our modern facilities are located at 1500 Birchmount Road between Lawrence Avenue East and Ellesmere Road and we are in close proximity to two subway stations; Warden and Kennedy. Facilities include: hi-speed wireless internet, a gymnasium, cafeteria, library, computer labs, and art, music and drama facilities. Education as it should be” and a healthy active lifestyle are the foundations of Bond Academy. We strive to encourage our students to reach their full potential by developing into kind, caring and active members of our society.
This summer has been a busy time for Bond as we partnered with Scarborough Basketball and P.H.A.S.E 1 Athletics to create the BP1 North American Travel basketball team which will play their home games at Bond, while also competing against elite basketball teams in the United States. We look forward to growing this program and of course, cheering on our new basketball team!
In addition, Bond has launched our AP program which will include Calculus, Chemistry and Physics courses for our students this year. We aim to grow this prestigious program with more course offerings for our students in the near future, while also continuing to be a registered AP testing venue.
As we start the new school year, it is essential that students, parents and staff all work together to provide the optimal learning environment for our students, in order to maximize their potential for success in their post secondary studies and eventually their chosen profession. Therefore, Bond provides an inclusive atmosphere that caters to all learning styles, while promoting the acquisition of the 21st century competencies that our students require, such as collaboration, critical thinking, digital literacy and social responsibility, in order to be prepared for their future vocations.
The initial stage of our programs is spent assessing the individual skills and needs of the students. As they become accustomed and comfortable with their new environment, students are challenged on an individual basis to excel within their strengths and improve upon their weaknesses. In our Literacy program, reading is taught phonetically and by the end of Junior Kindergarten the children are able to begin reading simple phonetic books. They are initially encouraged to print in lower case letters as their readers are in lower case print. Their progress is tracked using a reading assessment tool designed to provide the teacher with specific strategies needed to monitor and stimulate the development of each student’s literacy skills.
Mathematics and Science are introduced through a “hands on approach”. This will expose our students to materials that are used to facilitate and extend their understanding along the continuum, from concrete to abstract. Students will be exposed to the basics in our core French program, which starts in Junior Kindergarten. Students participate in weekly Swimming lessons as a part of our daily physical and health education program. With individualized instruction to facilitate and enhance progress, there is evidence of accelerated learning at an early age, providing our students with a head start in forming a solid foundation to build upon in their future academic years.
Our Before and After School programs are included at no additional cost. The Before School program runs from 7:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Parents drop-off their children knowing they are safe and supervised by qualified staff. The students are escorted to the After School program at the end of the school day. The After School program closes at 6:00 p.m. and provides a variety of supervised activities including educational games, gym time and a quiet area for the completion of homework.
Bond Academy offers an enriched academic curriculum set by the Ontario Ministry of Education. Caring and dedicated staff, small classes and commitment to our philosophy develop and refine the students’ skills as a learner. The Early Start Literacy program builds from the materials taught in the kindergarten program. Students further develop their reading, writing and speaking skills. Teachers track each student’s literacy skills providing specific strategies needed to monitor and stimulate their development. Our Numeracy program focuses on developing problem solving skills, and applying these skills through enrichment activities in all grade levels. Success in Mathematics is often a foundation for success in other subjects.
The Arts Program is divided into four main areas of study: Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts. Teachers specializing in these areas provide a solid program, introducing students to basic principles and concepts. Throughout their elementary experience, students nurture a fondness for the Arts. Every aspect of the performing arts is covered within the Dance & Drama Program. Students demonstrate their understanding of the basic elements, interpret the meaning of literary materials, and create dance and drama pieces. They also learn to make comparisons between their own and professional works. Production and technology aspects are introduced to students in later grades.
The Music program teaches students the elements of musical creativity and composition as early as Grade 1, continuing to Grade 8. Strong emphasis is placed on using and understanding basic terminology; reading, writing and performing various sounds. Students also learn to analyze and express their responses to music, while drawing from cultural, historical and social references. Students in Grades 4 to 8 develop their singing and playing (instrumental) abilities.
Bond Academy’s Visual Arts program develops creativity and the ability to communicate through visual images. Students learn to use the elements and principles of design through a variety of media such as painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, arts and crafts, printmaking and architecture. Students apply their understanding of the elements and principles of design by verbally analyzing artworks from different periods, movements and their own work.
The development of a healthy body and lifestyle is critical to our students’ personal and academic successes. Students develop the necessary skills and confidence to pursue a healthy lifestyle. Our approach is multifaceted; our Physical and Health Education program, access to our Aquatics program, Intramural Sports, Extracurricular Activities and, membership in the SSFA (Small School Athletic Federation), compete in various sports.
Bond Secondary academic program provides an environment for cultivating learning in bright young minds as we prepare for post-secondary education and future endeavours. The Ontario Ministry of Education has accredited our curriculum. While encompassing the needs, interests and learning styles of students today we prepare them for the global community.
Bond Academy operates on a semester system, with two semesters in each year. Senior students can begin credit courses at the beginning of the fall semesters in September and November and for the Winter at the end of January. In addition, we offer a one month Summer School Credit Program in July. Intermediate programs in Grades 9, 10, and 11 begin in September and are completed at the end of January. Bond Language Centre, providing ESL support, operates on a 12 month, continuous cycle. Students may enter the Bond Language Centre at any time, but must meet the Ministry course requirements and apply through our International admissions office.
Students develop an understanding of concepts, practical interpretations and reasoning. They demonstrate their abilities through communication, solving problems, and in turn, complete all program requirements. They explore historical and cultural references, and by drawing from real and imagined situations, students learn to construct, compose and relate knowledge and skills in varied and dynamic programs. Through a strong and rigorous language program our students are prepared for a challenging and engaging high school curriculum. Academic maturity throughout their studies prepares them for bright and exciting future.

I wholeheartedly endorse Bond Academy for families in search of a private school. Ms. Ann Boutchko, the principal, is always attentive and uplifting, while Ms. Jane, the guidance counselor, provides essential knowledge about the Canadian education system, helping each student achieve their very best academic performance and career path. The office staff is dedicated to maintaining a safe and supportive atmosphere, which has been incredibly beneficial for my high school daughter. Bond Academy also offers outstanding hot lunch programs and places a strong emphasis on mental health and wellness. The resource teachers and academic teachers do an amazing job of assisting students in navigating both academic and social hurdles. Thank you, BA, for your unwavering commitment to excellence!
