Daegu International School

Daegu International School is fully licensed by the Ministry of Education, Republic of Korea and is recognized by the Department of Education, Maine, USA as an associated school of Lee Academy, in Lee, Maine, USA. Lee Academy is a member of the Maine Association of Independent Schools, the Independent Schools Association of Northern New England (ISANNE), and The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS). Lee Academy is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Because of this partnership with Lee Academy, students who graduate from DIS receive both a DIS diploma and a Lee Academy diploma. DIS is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Our mission at DIS is to help students become successful contributing members of a global society by providing a safe, nurturing environment in which students can reach their maximum potential; socially, emotionally, and intellectually.

Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.” These words, spoken by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., embody the beliefs shared by the faculty and community at DIS about the purposes of education. The faculty at DIS is committed to furthering these beliefs about education in our students.

Our faculty knows that lessons are often learned with not just the mind, but with the body and the heart, as well. Experiencing ideas, through interactive and hands-on activities, makes learning real. Our faculty works to challenge students to achieve beyond their expectations, and to become creative, analytical, independent thinkers.

The DIS teachers and staff are all foreign, fully-certified teachers who teach content, as well as, character. Eighty percent of our professional staff has earned or is in the process of earning a masters degree or higher. This demonstrates the importance of life-long learning to all members of the DIS community. We are proud to offer 13 AP courses this year including the prestigious AP Capstone program.
