Hamazkaine Arshak and Sophie Galstaun College is a co-educational, non-selective school for students from Reception to Year 12. The Hamazkaine Arshak and Sophie Gaulstaun College opened its doors after a preliminary planning period of 3 to 4 years, and with a few demountable buildings in Terrey Hills and 39 students. The opening of the College doors was the realisation of the vision of many community members who held a strong belief that the establishment of an everyday school is an essential ingredient for the survival of the Armenian community in Australia. The subsequent 30 years have proven that Galstaun College has contributed immensely towards the survival and growth of the Armenian spirit in Australia.
1991 was a significant year for the newly established school with the official opening of a newly built Ingleside campus. During subsequent years, the community college added the ‘Tchaprazian’ library, the ‘Der Bedrossian’ laboratory, and ‘Nalbandian’ hall as well as the completion of the secondary college buildings .
Within a short period of time the sporting fields were opened and in 2014 the community witnessed the opening of the ‘Smokey Dawson’ Multipurpose hall which has opened the college’s facilities to the wider community. The Homenetmen Antranig Chapter played an important role in this development.
The Armenian Relief Society has been a strong advocate of the College since its establishment and contributes important funds on a yearly basis. Lately, the ARS has also contributed towards refurbishing the Information Technology labs.
Today the College has over 320 students who enjoy the architecturally designed magnificent campus in Ingleside. We owe it to community today and into the future to care, nurture and support our beloved Galstaun College over the next 30 years and beyond.
