At Grace College we’re passionate about providing a sound academic education in a private, co-educational, day scholar environment.
Founded in 1999 we’ve quickly become the high school of choice amongst Midlands’ parents who appreciate our purpose, which is to build a school that "Transforms young adults through innovative educational excellence”.
With a highly committed and happy staff complement who dedicate themselves to developing students beyond initial expectations, we have achieved some remarkable results not only academically but more particularly through the leadership and personal development of many of our pupils.
Now situated on a beautiful 22 hectare site on the Hilton College Road, we’ve commenced a development programme to expand our facilities, while capitalising on the spectacular views of the Midlands countryside and the Drakensberg range. Grace College is about partnerships, between families and the College, between each pupil and their teachers, between the College and partner/feeder schools and within various aspects of our LEAP and Masihambisane School Outreach Programmes.
Being the newest private school in the Midlands area, we’re extremely proud of what we have achieved. However, we are also very mindful of the growing needs of society and our responsibility to grow and develop young adults who become valuable members of society in the future.
During a recent strategic planning exercise we spent a lot of time discussing our Founders’ vision, revisiting our purpose, discussing our unique positioning and redefining our role within the Midlands community.
As you are probably aware we’re the “new kids” in terms of high schools in the KZN Midlands and are unique in that we are the only day scholar, co-educational, private school in the area, and we’re growing rapidly both in terms of pupil numbers and the facilities we have available.
The primary aim of the academic programme at Grace College is to provide the stimulus for pupils to reach their full potential academically and ultimately achieve the best results they are capable of in their final Matric Exams.
Pupils are encouraged, challenged and motivated to practice a sound work ethic and to be self-motivated and self-disciplined in their studies. The dedicated academic staff constantly assess each pupil and their achievements and discuss ways to stretch their achievements to exceed initial expectations. As pupils strive for individual academic excellence, they will acquire the skills that prepare them for a tertiary education and ultimately to be globally effective citizens.
Grace College includes, in its Grade 8 & 9 curriculum, a complete survey of the Bible, as well as introductory material on why we can trust the Bible and how translations into the vernacular were made over the centuries. After Grade 8, educators are encouraged to integrate spiritual truth with their subject matter, and in fact regularly do, across the spectrum of subjects offered by Grace College.
The IEB is a recognized and important player in the South African Education system and contributes positively to the debate on educational issues. It is accredited to UMALUSI, which is responsible for the quality assurance of education in schools in SA.
The IEB also spearheads a number of initiatives including: Examination accommodations are granted to enable candidates with specific barriers to learning to demonstrate their true ability in the examinations without changing the construct of the assessment.
The UMALUSI assessments are challenging, probing and comprehensive and test the pupils’ability to apply their knowledge. Research done by the University of Cape Town has indicated that the success rate of IEB matriculants at university is superior to that of other matriculants i.e. a higher percentage of IEB students finish their degree within the allotted time.
The number of our students who have performed well at both local and international Universities, is not only testament to our IEB syllabus being an effective strategy, but also that the dedicated Matric staff put their pupils’ success as their primary focus.
Many of our Matric Staff attend the annual marking session and this has enabled them to remain at the forefront of the latest expectations in terms of Matric standards and assessment methodologies.
Grace College continually evaluates our educational programme in order to ensure that we remain at the forefront of academic development. The College is wholly committed to providing its pupils with a dynamic, individualised education that will equip them to meet the challenges that lie ahead in the 21st century.
Grace College has achieved significant results both within the school league and the club leagues, within which we compete. Our pupils play to win and the skill level is continuously improving in terms of the main-stream school sports of Cricket, Hockey, Rugby, Basketball, Soccer, Swimming, Netball, Squash, Indoor Hockey, Cross Country and Tennis.
We are also fortunate to have pupils who have competed both locally and internationally in some of the non-traditional schools sports, including Mountain Biking, Equestrian and Golf which are recognised school sports. Additionally, at Grace College, we include sports such as; Motor Sport, Downhill Mountain Biking, Rock Climbing and Martial Arts for awards consideration.

Thank you once again for doing your part to keep Edarabia the most trusted education source.
My child has flourished at Grace College in Pietermaritzburg. The quality of education is exceptional, and the staff goes above and beyond to support the students. I am thrilled with the progress my child has made.
