JOY TO THE WORLD is the school that will give your child all of these things and much more to put you at ease. We understand the needs of children and work very closely with them to encourage and nurture them in all areas. We will also have close contact with you as parents and relay information about your child's progress on a regular basis.
Joy Tots is a 6 month early English education program. As an extension of our regular Joy to the World programs, we focus on having fun while exposing early learners to English. We provide a stimulating environment that will prepare children for joining our Pre-Kindergarten program when they turn 2.
Pre-Kindergarten has two main goals: first, to guide students in their transition from home life to school life, and second, to provide students with the social and academic skills needed for Kindergarten. These goals are achieved with careful consideration of each students needs and abilities. Pre-Kindergarten teachers use fun songs and big actions to keep the class lively and fast-paced. A well structured daily routine is used to give students a sense of confidence.
The K3 Class concludes the children’s preparatory years of learning and prepares them for the more formal educational endeavor of Elementary schools. A more advanced and structured approach to learning is implemented particularly in reading phrases, sentences and books that are age-appropriate; speaking in complete sentences enriched with English vocabulary and basic grammar structure; and writing sentences enriched with spelling awareness of most commonly used words. Upon graduation from this class, children are eligible to enter various Japanese elementary schools and international schools. Science, Social Studies, Arts, Music and Physical Education are integrated within the main curriculum.
Students who enroll in the Afterschool Kindergarten will be given a skills assessment before joining the class. The 2-hour program includes phonics and alphabet writing integrated with fun activities like story-telling and singing. Each year, the class progresses through a structured series of books introducing the letters and their phonics sounds. For students that repeat the course, the class routine is the same, but the worksheets and lessons become progressively harder to continue to challenge and introduce new material.
The Afterschool Elementary classes allow children in elementary school to supplement their learning with level appropriate curriculum in English. Various subjects are covered in in-class readings, teaching students about Science, History, Arts, and Humanities. Through reading, students are exposed to new words, varied grammatical patterns, and new ideas. Reading comprehension pushes students to think about the topics covered and make their own conclusions about the material. Spelling tests and homework serve to reinforce the skills acquired in class. Students who enroll in the Afterschool Elementary program will be given a skills assessment to be assigned to the appropriate class!
