Stories are powerful. They are the fabric of society and one of the most fundamental methods of education. Jesus taught through parables and lived the greatest story of all. Storytelling evokes emotion, encourages connection and invites the listener to engage in a deeper way to discover their story within the one being shared.

At Kelowna Christian School, we believe each moment and learning experience provides the opportunity to help our students discover their own unique and meaningful story. Most importantly, their place in God’s story. Learn more about our Design Principles for Teaching & Learning here.

Our desire is to partner with parents to create a safe, challenging and creative environment to inspire students to develop and find their story. A community that strengthens the heart, soul and mind of students to discover his or her true potential and impact on the local and global communities. Students that are not only leaders of the next generation, but also caring servants in His kingdom through authentic, relationship with Jesus Christ. Kelowna Christian School presents life changing education that provides a strong foundation of identity, knowledge, purpose and Christ-like character for world changing students.

An important part of our school's story is our history of marrying two schools from different traditions - Evangel Academy and Kelowna Christian School. From our earliest days we have tried to reflect and honour what is probably best described as an intentional broadly evangelical tradition. When drafting a Statement of Faith, for instance, we sought to reflect the core and essential beliefs that unite us, while allowing for flexibility where different denominations and traditions differ.

As a school we are devoted to expressing these commitments - not only through the education we provide - but also through the things we value and espouse. Our Vision declares that we seek to be a Christ-like community passionately transforming our world. Our Mission states that we exist to educate, equip and inspire our school community to become disciples of Jesus who love and serve God and others.

Our Preschool program features a variety of play-based intentional activities for children who are 3 to 5 years of age. Activities include: arts and crafts, dramatic movement, music, play to enhance gross and fine motor movement and control, weekly themes, school library visits, and field trips. We enjoy playing with language and exploring letter sounds, not only in the large group but in smaller groups with teacher-led activities. Pattern, rhyming, and early math concepts are all introduced with a fun play-to-learn approach by caring teachers always encouraging children to join the fun.

A fun element we began in 2016 is our outdoor Nature Play Space. This offers students an opportunity to explore nature and have the wonderful experience of 'hands-on play' with natural materials while developing self-awareness and social, problem-solving, gross and fine motor skills. The Nature Play Space also allows children to enhance their imaginations and greatly benefits their self-regulation and emotional development. We love connecting our students to the wonder of God and building a lifelong appreciate for His creation through our Nature Play activities.

Our KCS Elementary School provides a safe, nurturing environment where learning is exciting, positive and encouraging. Through fun and engaging challenges, students are encouraged to explore the foundational skills of literacy and numeracy through individualized and project-based learning. Our classes are led by gifted Christian teachers who genuinely care and uphold strong Christian values.

KCS believes in an innovative and holistic approach to education. We work together with families to help each child grow academically, socially and spiritually. It truly takes a village to raise a child and we feel privileged to join you on the journey. We love and care deeply for all our students.

Our KCS Middle School provides a safe, challenging and engaging environment where Grade 6 – 9 students are supported to discover and pursue their own unique passions and identity. Our Christian teachers reinforce a tight, caring community by guiding students through their challenges and successes.

We understand the complicated issues facing pre-teens and teenagers and aim to provide a school program that maintains a balance between the academic, Christian discipleship and personal development. We recognize that adolescents experience rapid physical, personal and social changes in their lives. For some, these years can be difficult as the students search for purpose and meaning.

Our academic program engages students to learn the core subjects through hands-on, individualized and project-based learning projects that have real-world connections. Check out our Presentations of Learning nights by clicking here. Alongside the core subjects, our Middle School students are offered a range of subjects in their Explorations block. From Foods and French to Drama and Media, we even have offered Woodworking, Golfing and Leadership classes. Students discover who they are as they develop socially and explore new challenges and interests. We encourage our students to apply these capabilities to their life and faith.

Our KCS High School not only prepares our Grade 10 -12 students for the world of work or study, but also aims to graduate young people who know who they are, where they came from and where they are going in God’s plan for their lives. The final years of schooling are filled with many choices and opportunities. Our academic program engages students to learn the core subjects through hands-on, individualized and project-based learning projects that have real world connections. While we strive for academic excellence in all areas, our foundational focus is to create connections between faith and learning. Chapels, class devotionals, sports teams and peer tutoring give students opportunity to discover and pursue their own unique passions and identity. Our dedicated and professional Christian teachers work together with students to give every opportunity for success and prepare them for future challenges.

The KCS International English Language Learners (ELL) Program creates opportunities for friendships and mission-based activities around the world. Students and families will benefit from the infusion of new perspectives and experiences from different cultures and develop an awareness of the interconnected nature of our world and our Christian faith.

Since it's inception, KCS has been committed to being an academically excellent school. For some, the simplest measure of whether a school is 'academically excellent' is how it does on standardized tests - such as BC's annual provincial exams. By this measure, KCS has and continues to be one of the strongest schools in the province.

We believe that things like strong provincial exam scores are a consequence of our core mission - not its purpose. We exist as a school to educate and inspire our students to become disciples of Jesus who make a difference.

Excellence is a core value of our school, but we don’t just mean high test scores. We mean students should strive to do well, and through encouragement and engagement achieve their personal best in a process of continuous improvement. Excellence at KCS means we push ourselves and our students to keep getting better using our best effort.
