Entry – A Thoughtful Approach

Doha College is a selective-entry school committed to academic excellence while ensuring that the educational environment is right for each individual pupil.

Every application is considered carefully and holistically. Our admissions process may include school reports and references, entrance assessment data, conversations with pupils and parents, and other relevant supporting information. Together, these help us build a rounded understanding of each applicant, their strengths and their individual learning needs.

Our assessments are designed not simply to consider academic readiness, but also to help us understand whether our curriculum, learning environment and wider school experience will enable each pupil to thrive.

The application process is designed to be clear and supportive and is completed online for families’ convenience. For September entry, applications typically open during the preceding academic year. Families are encouraged to review our admissions schedule for the latest key dates, availability and deadlines.

Families can begin their application from any device by visiting Apply to Doha College.

Getting to Know Our Applicants

The admissions experience varies with the pupil's age. At every stage, our aim is to understand each child, their learning profile, and their potential to thrive at Doha College.

Early Years

Our youngest applicants are invited to a friendly, informal, play-based observation with our Early Years team. Through small-group activities and simple practical tasks, our staff get to know each child and gain an understanding of their communication, development, independence and readiness for our EYFS learning environment.

Primary

For Key Stage 1, applicants are invited to a short, engaging one-to-one assessment with a teacher, usually lasting around 30 minutes. Through age-appropriate activities, we explore areas such as phonics, numeracy, communication, and social development, helping us build a rounded picture of each child.

Key Stage 2 applicants complete a standardised Cognitive Ability Test alongside a short writing activity and, where appropriate, a classroom observation. Together with information from their current school, this helps us understand each pupil’s abilities and learning profile.

Secondary

Secondary applicants complete a standardised Cognitive Ability Test and attend a pupil interview with a member of our Senior Leadership Team. Alongside school reports and supporting information, this provides us with a broader understanding of each pupil’s academic profile, interests, and potential.

6th Form

Our 6th Form admissions process is designed to be both purposeful and welcoming. Applicants complete a Cognitive Ability Test and meet with our Head of 6th Form to discuss their academic goals, subject choices, interests and future aspirations.

Mock examination results and predicted grades are also requested, allowing us to gain a well-rounded understanding of each applicant and ensure that their chosen programme provides the right foundation for the next stage of their education.
