Children's Centre Admissions

All you need to know about applying for a place in our Children’s Centre and Nursery

Prior Weston School and Children’s Centre is in the London Borough of Islington. We work to the Islington Council’s Admissions Policy, and our fee charges are set by Islington Council.

Application forms can be collected from the Reception desk or downloaded below. Once the form is completed, please return it to the Reception desk. Places are offered to children on the application list according to the Council’s admissions policy. Siblings are priority followed by distance to the Centre. We do not operate a waiting list. The Centre will contact you by phone/email if your child is allocated a place.

Admissions are on a rolling cycle therefore once a child has a birthday and a place becomes available, all applications are considered. It is not possible to give indications as to the availability of places in advance of allocation. If you have any further questions, regarding admissions or prices of nursery places please contact Lily Seatory our Children’s Centre administrator.

If and when we offer you a place, we will also offer you a home visit. This is an excellent opportunity for you and your child to meet their key person and for us to get to know you both in a place where your child feels confident.

Reception or Years 1 - 6 Admissions

Welcome to Prior Weston. We're a vibrant, community primary school, with a big heart. Our school takes pride in its inclusive community, where we welcome children from many different backgrounds to come together to both learn, share and to grow.

Academic rigour is a top priority at our school and our children are given all the tools and encouragement to go on to achieve the highest levels of academic excellence. We have an expert teaching staff and a rich, balanced curriculum which we monitor and measure constantly. We have high ambitions for every single one of our students to reach their full potential, both academically, socially and personally.

We have a strong focus on outdoor learning, our campus has extensive play spaces and we're set in the green of the park, all of this provides both a stimulating and calming place for students. Forest School is a new addition to our curriculum this academic year, which has already proven itself to be a big hit with the children and team. We believe in the importance of connecting with nature, promoting empathy, and fostering a love for the environment.

Our music programme is unrivalled, with every child being given the opportunity to learn the cello or violin from 5 - 6 years old right until they leave our school at the end of year 6. Each child is taught twice weekly with professional musicians and we hold music concerts every term.

Sport is also a strong feature of our school day with many different games and activities to promote physical and mental strength. Our Prior Weston teams take part in many of the borough and London-wide school competitions such as football, swimming, tennis, gymnastics and cricket.

What sets us apart is our strong sense of community and the happy family feel that permeates through our school. We prioritise strong relationships and ensure that every child feels valued, recognised for their unique character and supported in their childhood journey. Our teachers and staff go the extra mile to look after this nurturing and inclusive atmosphere, one where every student will thrive. We don't subscribe to the formula of school uniforms for primary age children, we have a reputation to being a creative group of individuals and, in this small way, this represents these values.

Prior Weston is passionate about nurturing well-rounded, empathetic individuals who are prepared for the challenges of the future. Join us and experience the joy of learning in a diverse, warm, academically driven, and supportive environment.

Apply for a school place in-year

You need to use an Islington in-year admission online form to apply for a school place when you

  • are new to the local area (Islington, Hackney, City of London, Haringey…) and need a school place – we welcome children and families from all boroughs
  • want a change of school
  • need to apply for a reception place but you moved to Islington after the closing date

You can apply at any time.

Choosing the right school for your child

  • talk to your child – involve them as much as you can
  • think about what’s right for your child – don’t rely on what others tell you or what you read on parenting websites
  • you can view all primary schools in Islington on the council website
  • visit schools – contact the school for visiting dates
  • think about the journey – how easy will it be to get to the school? Some schools may be further away but are easier to get to
  • check the admission criteria and cut-off distance in the school fact file
  • don’t choose only one school – your application will not be treated more favourably and you could lose out on another school you like.

If you need further advice, contact the School Admissions team (admissions@islington.gov.uk). They cannot tell you which schools to apply for, but they can explain the admission criteria and tell you where there are vacancies.
